Thread: Bonnet stay.

    Default Bonnet stay.

I want to attach a couple of hydraulic bonnet lifters to a VN .

Could anyone tell me where the bonnet shocks mount to on the body of the car. I,m not sure what models had hydraulic ones, but probably it is in Calais etc.
The bonnet has a small nut where I can attach one, but I can't see where to attach it on the body.Just thought it might help save a bit of trial and error,
I have a few hydraulic bonnet lifters and thought I might convert it away from the manual bonnet stay.

Also do they have one or two lifters for the bonnet.?

And roughly how long would the lifters be?

Any pics would be a bonus.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for that Jase.

Exactly what I was after. I thought they may have welded a bracket onto the body for it where there's a rubber stopper at the moment .

Some bozo , leaned on the bonnet clip the other day , and it being plastic broke off And anyway our crappy old XE wagon even has a hydraulic bonnet lifter, so the VN should have one too.

You can get the bottom bracket and bonnet struts from some VP's and VR's and VS's as well...they are all the same. Theres already a spot to fit the bracket on the VN's as well as a spot on the bonnet to attach the top of the strut.

What I dont understand...is how the hell you attach the top to the bonnet where the hole is...

looks like they have to be welded onto the side guard, looks messy especially if u wanna remove the side panel,

I just searched the forums and found a really good thread with pics on this topic:
    VN struts

Note how they mention to replace the the normal bolts in the side guard bits above the bonnet struts to the flat type found on VS commodores or you will end up with a bent or misaligned bonnet
