Hmmm... this is looking a couple of months into the future, but I've been considering coating my interceptor rims with a few coats of black matte or gloss paint. And if I like the outcome, I'm thinking about getting someone to do it professionally with a powder coat.
I have a real liking for the "stock car" look, with tinted lights, dark paint, black wheels, dropped suspension, and a general well-worn but tough appearance. I already have the dark paint, and I can easily tint the lights+windows. It's just the wheels that bother me. The interceptors look too happy in silver.
Here's a couple of photoshops. Before and After. Let me know what your personal opinions are! Spray the interceptors black, or leave silver? And if I spray them, should they be gloss or matte?
This is as an alternative to mags of course. Mags have to be 17" or bigger to look decent on a commy, and it doesn't fit my budget!

I kinda like your silver ceptors, but stock VP ones are black, so it's your choice, 15 inch wheels are better than 17's and lighter! keep the 15's I say. And tinted lights are uncool
it's too much of a 18 year old thing to do in my opinion
yea, I know what you mean about the tinted lights. But if the wheels and windows go black, the lights almost -have- to go black. if not darker. even only one coat. something to make the colour a bit richer. I farkin' loathe altezza lights on the VP sedan, and I can't find any crystal or projector-style lights.
But you're right, I risk looking like a hoon with tinted lights. Cops will love me too, and we all know what they're like in Victoria.
My window garnish has to go black, too. I don't much fancy the stock grey. I'll have to pull them off and spray them sometime.
The silver 'ceptors could look good lowered I guess. *ponders*

Id stick with silver but thats just my opinion.
Australia. Love it or leave it
I prefer the silver ones as well...I dunno why but the black ones just look a little dodge to me
it could be my photoshopping effortIf you have any -other- suggestions, feel free to throw them at me aswell.

Well you say you like the stock look, but what about little things like the window trim?
If you sand it back and then polish it up it will look chrome...it comes out much better than the Lexcen chrome surrounds, n it looks great.
Other than that just keep it clean...A clean shiney car always looks nice
Black ones don't look that good... I know as I have black ones....behind hub capsJust looks dero as,
Cheers, Gaz
I've seen cars where black look alright but when it comes to the crunch i think black ceptors just look bodgy and very cheap. But hey thats just my personal opinion.
lmao, dero. havn't heard that word used in years ^^
What about chroming them? Could look spunky dropped on chrome interceptors. And with vn2nv's idea of chroming the window trim, it could be pulled off nicely! Now there's some food for thought.
Any ideas how much a chrome powdercoat costs these days?

leave em silver looks 100 times beter
wrecking VL COMMODORE 5 speed
FOR SALE : supra 5 speed box suite holden v8 $800
Maybe I'm wrong on this, but weren't the 'ceptors colour coded? The silver ones were 15x7 and the black version were only 15x6?
Not that it really matters I guess.
Anyway...as for my 2c...leave 'em silver.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
Yeah, you're right about that. Just looked it up. Y'all could be right about leaving them silver, too. Black usually only looks good on spoked mags. Lowered and chromed could still be an option... opinions? anybody had wheels chromed before, or done it themselves?

Chroming the interceptors sounds like a good idea, but might not be worth the money...But i have no idea on costs. But if it wasnt too expensive i'd say go for it!
i wish mine were silver instead of black!!!
look at my bodgy painting.
its not the silver i wanted but it has grown on me
before
after
i like the silver better(even if it doesnt look silver)![]()
Adam
The stock interceptors on my VP V8 are black 15x6 but they have a heaps of radical numbers along with the 6, which I guess has to do with a special offset for the IRS, not sure really, the only one that was left with the car when I bought it was the spare and I've never had it on the car. I still say keep them silverand later on get some FE2 or superlow springs and some thicker sway bars and all will be good
i dont mine both sliver and black, black does look a bit more bogan i think, tho the black light tinting looks nuts do that for sure..
Nicely done, Adam! You should have just made them white!I would've.
So I guess the wheels stay silver for now. I'll have a serious look into chroming, 'cause as vn2nv said, it could look nuts. I seem to remember hearing about diy-chrome spray paint somewhere... ... but I could be dreaming.

haha, and how cheap exactly is "all shit"? And what sort of rubber are you getting for that price? I still like the idea of getting a full set of half-used RE92s for $100.
Prices -are- coming down as average wheel sizes go up though. Perhaps I'll be able to afford some bling in a couple of years. For now, interceptors all the way ^^
