    Default help with timeing my vn

    hi need to check the timeing on my vn 5lt v8 has a cam and chip package in it and sumbody told me that will change your timeing from the 10 degree factory setting just wondering if this is so many thanks

    dialing a cam in means that the cam has max lift (valve fully open at induction stroke, same on exhaust) if it hasn't ya wont get full performance from cam. As for timing it, you are gunna need to advance it, go two degrees and see if it pings under load, then another two,etc... ya gunna have to time it by ear, and experiment, good luck.

    on the spec sheet that came with the cam it should give you a starting point to time it to

    i mean start at the factory timing mark and advance by 2 degrees each time till it dont ping under load, remember to remove the vacuum line off the disy when doing timing (if it has one cant remember, been a while since a f#cked with 5.0l) advance is the direction the vaccum advance line comes off.

    Hey woo, for doing the timing on the 5 liter you short out the aldl plug so it's in dianostic mode, same as checking for errors then you use your timing light and adjust the dizzy till it's at 10 degrees, for go fastness your going to run 12 or 14 degrees at least with higher octane fuel
