Default Fuel pressure regulator, or DFI Module

Another handy hint from my local holden man on the weekend -

lately my car (VP Calais) has had trouble starting on cold mornings, or in fact at any time. my local mechanic thought it might've been the security system. apparently he was wrong. the Holden man said that it could be either the fuel pressure regulator (FPR) or DFI module (not crank angle sensor because it doesn't work when its cold)

He said it could be the FPR if i pulled off the hose and petrol came out. well sure enough, i did that and out came a few blobs of petrol. according to the Holden man, this means its stuffed and im up for $165 plus labour.

Now i'm sure we've all had bad experiences with our local holden man, who thinks he know's more than he actually knows, or tries to make you buy something you really don't need. What do you guys reckon in this case? This morning when it wouldn't start, i pulled off the hose, let the blobs of petrol come out, then i put it back on and it started fine, so im thinking that is the problem. but do i really need to fork out that much coin?

    Thanks guys

    Default

well the vacuum line shouldnt have petrol coming out of it so there is somthing wrong there but if you simply block it off you can get an after market adjustable regulator for $50 and install it straight after the original (yes this does work) and run the vacuum from the manifold to the new regulator and your away saving $115 and you can do the labour yourself. the hardest part is figuring out where you want to mount it

this will do the trick and the pressure should be around 40 psi

although i rekon i got mine a bit cheaper than that and you will need to buy some extra rubber fuel lines but it will come with a long vacuum hose
im not admiring your car im looking in disgust
