i had some work done today, i had to have the rubbers which sit atop the bearing plates of both struts replaced. i also got a wheel alignment done.
apart from costing me over $350 for 2 bits of rubber and a wheel alignment, the passenger strut now shudders every time i turn left, enough to make me slow down if i'm going around a bend.
a) did i get ripped off?
b) it's not just new rubbers needing to wear in? have they stuffed something up?
I've had suspension replaced and never had any of that, you should definately take it back.
Somethings stuffed, Luke had a technical problem with his, the top spring seat needs to have the little notch on the edge of it facing towards the wheel. Check that
take it back tomorrow, tell them what you told us, they *should* take it for a drive around the block to test and fix the problem, as im assuming it only started after the new bits.
took it back. apparently the seals on the end of the steering rack are worn and are letting air into the power steering lines. quoted $500+ for a fix.Originally Posted by hakhawk
apparently it started after the work was done because the car is sitting differently on the road and the load on the power steering is different.
i'm a bit skeptical... i'll get a second opinion on the weekend.
if its the seals on the rack and they want 500 to fix it, you could pick up a reco rack for a couple hundred i would imagine, put it in yourself.
second opinion is the go.
$80 from the wreckers, Sounds like a plan... Do it yourself! Dont pay anyone for anything you can do yourself.
Cheers
