Hey is it possible to get an engeneers cetificate if you drop an rb30et into a cn commy? or is it 100% impossible since the engine is from an older car?

im not sure !!
i didnt think you could put engines from older cars into newer cars cause the gas emissions. im not sure![]()
Adam
yeah thats what i meant, thats why i wanna know if it can be engineered so that they give it the "OK".
if it could be done i rekon it would be a pretty cool idea.

if this is for your vn didnt you just supercharge it?
if so why do you want the rb30et in it(even if its turbo)
Adam
Didn't you supercharge it like a week ago?
hey greenfoam what you using that username for![]()
trying to get to 2000 posts or something
Adam
Nah, everyone was talking about this rep points thing, I never knew about it before and wanted to see how many I had on this old account
yeah i did charge mine, i was just thinking its a cool idea. and i thought "why isnt everyone doing this" since it should be easy.
but then i remmebered that older engine into newer car rule.

did the rb30et come out in any nissans (well it is a nissan motor)
it might be in a newer nissan and you might be able to change it out of that
if u can
Adam
it came out in as the RB30 in the r31 skyline, but i dont think they came out as RB30et's in the skylines.
the r31 turbo skyline has an RB20 instead.

Whats wrong with the Buick 3.8Litre?
For the cost of the conversion you could easily shove a turbo on the Buick...which is a faster engine stock anyway. So basically...why?

I agree with Vn2nV whats the point of putting a less powerful engine in the vn. The buick v6 turbo'ed would romp the rb30 turbo'ed anyday. No point in the conversion unless you absolutely have your heart set on this to be different?
they did have rb30et's in r31 skylines
to give u an idea

Thats an RB25 tho? RB25DET makes 250hp (186kw) stock, not 201hp (150kw) like the RB30ET... Big difference. Also its a DOHC not a SOHC...More valves per cylinder. Much more torque than the RB30 as well.Originally Posted by scoop
A VL Turbo does not run 0-100 and 1/4 mile much faster than a stock VN commodore. 0.8 tenths of a second difference i think?
The RB30 does not have enough torque in my opinion. The VN makes more torque at 1200rpm than the RB30 does at peak.. The VL Turbo however has 3NM of torque more than a stock VN...wow.
I just checked and the VL turbo ran 7.63 seconds 0-100 with a quarter mile of 15.58 seconds according to Holden Heaven who rates the VN with:
7.89 seconds (V6 auto)
7.70 seconds (V6 manual)
15.62 seconds (V6 auto)
15.65 seconds (V6 manual)
I dont like the VN figures cause I thought the VN ran 8.1 0-100 and 8.0 for the VP according to other articles, wheels and figures released officially by Holden. Even so it shows an RB30ET in a VN would not be a big improvement in pace, with some extra weight coming with the VN
How many vl 6cyls are there running 9-13 second qtr passes?
how many vn/vp 6 cyls are there running 9-13 second passes?

The point is the COST of the conversion is not worth it...if you have the money to spend put it into the VN engine and you will be a long way ahead.
This is not a VL turbo vs VN V6 argument
VN's are only just entering the stage now where they are being done up like the VL. Theres so many bogan VN's out their being used to ram raid liquor stores and shit instead of being modified to show their potential.

same goes for bogan VL's!
my point is, it would be much cheaper to bolt in an RB30ET FACTORY turbo motor, with an alloy head and overhead cam and tough internals + boost it.... starting from an already good base... as opposed to using a 1960's design motor (yes, the top end has changed a fair bit), building it so it can handle significant boost, then engineering a turbo setup to suit....
at the end of the day, each to their own
In my opinion the rb30et is a better, smoother, tougher, more modern design motor, with much more part availibility for big power than the v6
Buy a V8, Stroked & blown........ Save your money an don't put a non GM motor in your car man, Thats blasphemy........
Cheers
