lol wishin i had a 4 banger right now... hmmm would be nice to get round for a week on 20L of fuel!!!!!

but between 6 and 8 id have to say a 6 after reading through the v6 vengence article... forced induction of course!!!!

the beaty about having a 6 is if you blow it up.. a replacement motor is around $50 (working, if you get a good deal if not round 300-400) with probbly the same ammount of km... as for the S1 motor has more than enough power/torque to get me from A to B and get me out of sticky situations (trucks deciding to change lanes into me becuase im in their blind spot) wouldnt mind up grading the rotors to some nice slotted and drilled/bigger and fatter rubber.. had too many people cause me to lock my brakes.. stockies dont cut it

I have both, one of them is rotting on the front lawn and it's not a V8 , For my driving, the both use the same fuel, one sounds 100 times better is a smoother better higher quality engine and way faster and for me insurance is almost the same. Easy choice

If I was 18 and living in the city I would still rather the V8 but I would be forced unwillingly to have the v6 car, infact I'd have a ricer if I was a city boy

I said v8, mainly because i drive one but they are better. Fuel economy to my old v6 ecotec is roughly the same (a tad better in the 6 of course). But the power of the v8 shits over the struggling v6, every time i drive my old car i feel like im in a 4 cylinder.

Why does everyone bitch about fuel and insurance driving a v8... Im 18 and manage fine.

Because people just like to whinge.

Go an 8, sounds good, goes good. Fuel is no real difference unless your foot is made of lead.

Id rather the 8, the 5 litres have heaps of potential and they sound heaps better than most 8s.

How much does your insurance cost for an 8?
I do have a lead foot, and its part of my nature and I do around 30,000km's a year (like 550 a week) living in Gumeracha, so I do more driving than most P platers.

Im really struggling with petrol as it is, like $90+ a week. Rego, insurance, tyres, servicing it all adds up and uni books are costing $500 a semester as well. N i wouldnt mind having some money left over for clubbing etc. on weekends and money for things other than my car.

But having said that, as soon as I get off my P's and can get a good paying job when I finish 3rd year of uni to get my bachelor degree (total of 6 years), then the first thing I will be doing is saving to buy a new SS or second hand HSV (VE range)...The time will come.

You may earn alot more than other 18 year olds or you might put your car before everything else. When I was 18 I couldnt afford an 8 because of insurance, petrol and maintenance. I couldve if I spent most of my pay on it but I chose to spend on other things and invest.

I live in the country and rating one for life so V6 third party is like 90 bucks (per year) and full insurance on the V8 is aobut $360 vs $290 for the V6 but the V6 is a Lexcen so its alot cheaper than an actual Commodore for insurance

    Yup, $90 per year.
Tonight it was raining and reminded me a couple of bad things about V8's
The 1/8-1/4 throttle granda spec side ways countersteering action up the main street of town pointing at a parked gen III SS when you were supposed to be going straight = uncool. It's at times like this you are well aware of just how heavy a Commodore is and how much momentum it carries with it . And also your tires dont last long

Yep I'm with racv too. They base everything on how many stacks your age group has and how much cars get stolen in your area etc, how many claims that particular model has had. Since my area only has like 1 car theft per year (max) and my age group don't stack and I've never stacked and Lexcens don't ever get stolen or stack anyway. It's all good.

Kill all the car theifs and stop the other young kids stacking and it will change to be cheap

I only get 380km to a tank and thats with BP Ultimate....its perhaps cause of the really twisty road and going uphill then downhill, etc. in combination with the way I drive, and i often have 2-3 people in the car.

But whats the point in buying a V8 if you drive like a granny? If you drive like a granny 24/7 you might as well go buy a Hyundai Excel. I have a lead foot and I enjoy driving the way I do, N im not gonna start driving like a granny so that I can buy a V8 because imo that is completely pointless...buy a V8 so i can drive slower everyday ?

I average 9.4l/100 in my V8, but I don't drive in town much. That's 851kms per tank incase you didn't have the calculator handy

And what a nice way to reach 2000 posts
