Gday all.
My VP has ticking injectors, i know this in itself isnt a big problem, but I was talking to a mate who reckons if I take them off the car and clean them out that the ticking will go away, while also giving my car slightly better performance/response.
I thought, however, that injectors only required a clean if the car was missing or running rough?
Anyways, any truth to this? Would it be worthwile or will i just be wasting my time?
Cheers guys.
Every commodore I've owned has had ticking injectors, they are metal, I was under the impression that this was normal, I could be wrong.
I was told that they do start to tick when they get old, but that it doesnt in anyway inhibit their performance. My mates VL (RB30) hasn't got ticking injectors, and neither does my mums VT or my dads VZ so i dunno about it being normal, but i dont think its harmful though.
Fair enough, I was unsure, I have had a vr clubsport a vs senator a vr calais a vn exec and my current sv 89 they all did it, I had a fuel system clean on the clubby I think it had about 150000 at the time and it still did it after that. If you do get it to stop let me know how cause it bothers me. Cheers.
Yeah my vn's got ticking injectors. i thought it was only mine and was gonna see about it but it looks like other people have ticking injectors aswell. My car still runs great so im not going to worry about it.

If they start ticking, try not to clean them...otherwise you clean out all the build up that's keeping them a bit quieter. Mine started to tick a little so I ran injector cleaner through them and a couple of tanks of optimax, and now I can't get the little shits to shutup. They're louder than before.

Is that so? Thanks, i'll keep that in mind. I was going to do a proper job and actually soak them in some injector cleaner overnight, hopefully that would get most of the gunk out of 'em.Originally Posted by mouce
You want to do a proper job, get them ultrasonically cleaned. Soaking them in injector cleaner is only a little more effective than running it through with the petrol, and to do it properly you need to have them 'open' the whole time.
Take them to a fuel system workshop and get them ultrasonically cleaned.

90% of cars with injectors make a ticking sound
My injectors used to tick really loudly. I run injector cleaner through every couple of months and they get quieter each time. Now it's barely audible compared to what they used to be like.

mine tick but it ads to the audible experience of owning a 3.8 v6![]()
Mine tick and i run injector cleaner through it every few months. it doesnt make the ticking any better or any worse.
