National average price - private sale* $2,300 - $4,400
so $2,200 is nothing special. but considering what you get for that money, i reckon that's a lot of car for $2,200.
All up my calais cost $5200 Including 2 years of rego and insurance and got it ready for rego for $2800 and I sold it for $3500. Had it for a little over 2.5 years.
That car had a pretty good life. Bought as a written of vehicle for $1100 had the front end fixed up. then resprayed when I lost my license. Then again before I sold it to fix up the spots my dad ****ed. The only mods I did to it where stereo and a sports exhuast so thats probably why I didn't lose much money on it.
rego doesnt count.Originally Posted by gumbs

what did it cost you before rego?
well i got my car for free. muhahahhhhaha.. needs a new box now though.. but ive ajusted my kickdown and i havent had a chance to drive it (no licence) so i hope that fixes a bit of the gear change slip
I paid $2800 for my VP. 3.8l, 5 spd man, 190k km.
Only thing i've had to replace is the clutch (wore out) and the p/s high pressure hose (sprayed p/s oil all over my headers. LOTs of white smoke).
I'm happy with mine. Paid $4500 for a VN V6 S1 manual sedan. In the few years that I've had it I've needed a new fuel pump, new steering rack, new clutch and it's still not all fixed up yet. That said it could be worse...
My neighbour picked up a VN V6 S2 manual sedan, lowered, sports pipes and 17" rims for $7500 (only two years ago)!!! As if that wasn't bad enough, it's got a massive crack in the chasis that had been bogged for the RWC, and at some point it had been in a flood because when he got the sound system redone, they lifted the carpet and found dried mud throughout the car. He wasn't happy.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
i bought my VG for $4,500....rooted transmission and engine but good body with decent lsd and exhaust
got my vn for my b/day presie![]()
so it didnt cost me anything,
and nothing has gone wrong with it except the wheel bearings
so i say i got a fair deal ...lol![]()

I bought my VP Berlina for $10,000 9 years ago. It had 60,000ks on it when i got it and now has 170,000ks. Its still going as good as the day i got it so i'm happy with it.
I was only 18 when i got it, so it seemed like a lot of money at the time but it was well worth it.

my second vn wagon for $150, running. some surface rust on roof. currently half stripped for rebuild.
i paid 3900 for my car with the following included - lowered, wheels, exhaust. standard mods. however it does have a reco'ed vp motor in it, so it should last a while
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
like it how everyone says nothing has gone wrong with their car except:
-gives a list.
anyway i wouldn't call mine a bargin but paid 1300 no rego ended up about 2500 after respray and taking over pits odo says 120,000(old one stoped at 320,000 was stoped wheni got it) but its a manual(these are apparently rare but now i got mine there everywhere!). and nothing has gone wrong with it except......
Ive had my vn since new in 1988 dad purchased it for $24,900 (exec) RIP OFF!! But it was a special order manual with heavy duty clutch as there were no manuals released with the exec model except this one.
$600 for Series 1 VN (Lexcen) auto on gas since new. $15.00 for an oil cap and brake booster hose and grommet.
New cat leads and plugs only and a few minor problems which cleared themselves up. Travelled 30000ks since I had it.
Currently driving an 84 Corona wagon (wife is using the VN) that cost me $7.00. Put a complete computer system together from $7.00 in parts from the local tip recyclingand swapped it for the wagon. Auto, A/C, lic and running perfectly. Have a buyer at $700 taking it off my hands next week.
Never
$50.00 paid for each answer to a post of mine.
Please note cheques will not be honoured
$400 bucks for the car, spent $38 dollars on rocker cover gaskets and apart from the ongoing saga with the wiper washer everything else is fine and dandy (oh, another $14 dollars to fix some minor rust under windscreen seal as well, no more leaks if it rains heavily now!!)
Me thinks bargain...

Bought my VP Calais for $3000. 197km, Simmons wheels, reasonable condition. I had to replace the inlet manifold ($700 inc labour) and then had it converted to manual ($1,700) but now she is ready to go. Put on Lukey exhaust and CAI last w/e and gunna put the K&N on this week, followed by some lowering all round.
Seeing as i could prob. sell the wheels for $1400 and the car for $5000 (how many VP Calais manuals are out there?) i think its a decent deal. I wish i'd known about the shit involved with manual conversion, but hey, i love my car now![]()
I paid $9500 two years ago from a dealer for my VN and i dont know whether to say a rip off or bargin.... it had a brand new paint job, new body kit (all up $5400) plus mags, new tyres and alarm.
But two months ago had a new engine put in her at 197000ks so hrmm *shrug*
Thats all right, thats ok, I drive a commodore anyway!!!!
12 months ago I paid $3000 on the road for my 92 VP Wagon. Reco motor/trans approx 92,000kms earlier, clean as a whistle. I've put maybe another $1000 into it since.
i paid $1500 for my vn calais it has pace makers and a shift kit and got 6 months reg with it not to bad if you ask me
VN Calais V6, pacemakers,shift kit,VT internationals

coming soon:new spray job& VY GTS rims
bought my vp for 4,200, bog stock exec, auto, single spinner, v6....
full grandpa sepc, 160,000 on the clock
it's now coming up to 200,000 and has seen about 10-15,000 km on 6psi boost, the rest at redline!
Not a single leak from the motor, not burning any oil.
things that have gone wrong over time: (other than stuff i've modified)
1) power steering pump
2) fuel pump x 2 (I should stop running the tank dry)
That's it!
got my berlina for $5000 which was bloody cheap for then. the next cheapest one i saw was 7000. well anyway it had 110,000 on the clock. so far though ive replaced the o2 sensor, rear suspension, altinator, and exhaust (old one rusted through)
so all in all i think i got a bargin
