    Cool Fixing Heater

Here is a problem that i've had with my heater and i just went out and fixed it then so here goes,

On the back of the temperature control dial there is a small metal rod that extents to the back of the dash that controls the flap for the heater, this rod just clips into a small lever under the dash, if you heater is not working stick your head down near the foot rest and look up the side under the plastic, there is a small white plastic lever, you should see this metal rod connecting to this lever, however if it doesn't than this could be the cause for your heater not working.

    If it is disconnected the rod should be sitting just near it, clip it back in and then glue it so it doesn't come out again, however on my dial it had been turned too far so the cogs weren't gripping on each other, hence centre console dash removal was in order, and follows;

Here goes: Undo the two screws in the glove box that hold the centre column in, (bear in mind my car is a manual if yours is a auto you would probably have to unclip the surround around the shifter or just put your transmission down to "1") after undoing these screws you should be able to slide your column down enough to get access to the screws on the base of the surround around the dials and radio etc.
Once those screws are undone the radio surround will unclip via pulling on it, reach through and unclip the air con wires
When that is off remove the knobs from the dials and the fan switch, once their off the face plate just comes off.
After that's all of there will be one screw holding the white temperature control block in, take this screw out and the other screw on the opposite side of the column.
Undo the plastic fuse cover under the steering wheel, there is two or three screws on the left side of this, unscrew those, then go over to your glove box and undo the three or so screws on the right side.
After you've taken all those out the whole centre part should now remove, you'll have to unplug the dial controls before it will come all the way out, there is two electrical plugs which just release when the clip is pressed, and the vacuum controls the big rubber join piece on the controls just slides straight off, don't go undoing individual hoses as this'll be frustrating trying to get them right again.

when all the plugs are off the white control block will be able to be removed from the centre piece.
if the wheels have gone too far and the cogs aren't gripping, turn the dial all the way to the hot side, then on the side where the dial is push the little centre of the wheel and it will pop out.
when you pop it out position it so the little knob that stops it is against the stopper, you'll see, then position the bitter wheel to near the end of the cogs, not too far or it will just screw off again. use a bit of leverage and small amount of force to make them slot in again.
once that's back in and you've turned it all the way to cold and then to hot (the rod should be moving back and forth) turn the dial to hot (this gives the rod the largest reach) then place it back into the centre console and feed the rod back through to the white lever, clip it into place then sucure with glue or something (i used silicon)
connect the switches back up and the vacuum then push the centre back into place, do the one screw the holds the white control block first, this will hold the temp controls in place aswell as the column, go around and do up the three screws on either side of the column and the other two screws on the control guage screw's line.
place your face plate on now, put the dial controls back on so i holds it in place
put the radio surround back in place, connect the air con and push it up and screw into place
slide the centre console back up and make sure the tabs on the sides slide in, then screw the two screws in the glove box back in, might have to push up on the centre to make it stay up to the other section while you screw them in.

that should be about it, alot of typing but it really doesn't take long, i did mine in an hour and a half but that was with a bit of stuffing around with things. shouldn't take longer than half an hour i'd imagine

hope this helps some people with their heater worries!
    cheers
