hey guys,
i have some kind of slime in my radiator! i dont no how it has happened or wat it could be but it is brown (due to rusty bits) and has only happened since i flushed my radiator about 2 months back. any suggestions to wat it is and if it is harmful to drive with? i will eventually get a flush done properly when finances are better!
cheers

I assume that by "slim" you mean slime?
It obviously needs to be flushed....are you sure u did it properly 2 months ago?
Flush it PROPERLY now...it could cause the car to overheat or damage to the radiator
the slime is most likely little rusted pieces of your water pump that have been circulating around the cooling system for ages turning them into a nice pastey gunk.
thats my best bet anyway...i really good flush might fix the problem for a few months, but if it is the water pump nothing will completely get rid of the slime but a new one.
Same with me flushed it out and it came back.
Be careful of it dropping on the car as it's a bitch to clean off it stains bad.

When you changed the coolant did you use those coolant pellets that Holden tell you to use? If so it's probably those. They created little slimey particles that are supposed to keep your water pump lubricated.
I also just found that brownish/green slime in my radiator ,gave the radiator a quick flush but the slime is still hanging around. Not sure what to make of this and do you have to replace the coolant pellets after flushing the radiator?
i had it too but was trans fluid getitng into radiator as they share same radiator pin hole between 2 tanks
check trans dip stick if brown and oily its trans fluid
looks yukk
new radiater and trans flush fixed it
brown slime usually means oil or auto fluid in the cooling system.its verry common on commodores

I get a little, even after a professional flush and fill. Maybe enough to cover the end of my finger over 12 months. Not too bad.

Just replace the muffler and it should fix the problem
I was having an argument with my missus and she said "You don't even know what love is!"
"Sure i do, its that white stuff."
Check it out!
if you are finding a strawberry milkshake in the transmission or radiator, then its the transmission cooler in the radiator, it is easier to ahve a reconditioned readiator put in the ot repair it.
If you are finding a chocolate milkshake in your radiator or engine oil, then that means the head gasket or valley gaskets are starting to leak, for your sake, you want it to be the valley gaskets.
Then again if its a broweny orange colour, it could also just be rust built up in the sustem due to poor mantainance, but if a flush doesn' t get rid of it, keeps comming back then its probaly a gasket.
Soon to be back on the road, Turbo VG.
Thanks!
hey im getting a similar situation
im getting sludgy mess comming from the plastic part where i add the water?
its like a dark green to brown sludge.
it wouldnt be my gasket?

same problem here but numerous tests later no-one can find any issues...
99% chance it's your Valley cover gaskets, its a pretty quick fix and most of you should be able to do it yourselves. if there isn't to much oil in there (and you will know if it's oil by rubbing it between your fingers.) then the problem isn't to urgent, but as soon as it starts to get bad it becomes urgent, due to the reduced efficiency of the cooling system, Also don't do any long trips with it like this (>1.5 hrs/150+km) without fixing it; i've seen too mnay commy's on the back of tilt trays because of this.
Please PM me if you know of any L67's complete with loom and ECU are for sale
if it's the trans cooler in the radiator that leaking just fit an aftermarket trans cooler kit and bypass the original, it's prabably better for your tranny as well. just remember to cap the 2 pipes for the original so that it's sealed incase the radiator starts leaking into it and you loose coolant. if you suspect the it's the intake valley gaskets try tighning all the intake manifold bolts a little

Yeah i seem to have this Slime too, its not visible when looking at the water.. But if you poke your finger down and bring it up its there..
Also i had a puddle of water and i put it in there and it went to that similar oily look around the slime?

Actually that's interesting- mine's heaps bad, when I pull up the yellow dipstick from the spew bottle (overflow) it looks like a baby took a dump in there. But, she just doesnt get anywhere even near hot. Even sitting in traffic in summer- i have yet to see the temp rise. Maybe mine's something else- i'll have to start checking some stuff
valley gasket- should only take an hour to get to wouldn't it? probably what, $30 or so for the gasket?
Ok ,i took my vn down to local garage and got the mechanic to have a look ..after doing a few checks and topping up the tranny fluid which was low he's certain it's tranny fluid in the radiator causing the oily slime.I'm bloody glad it's not the heads as i got a couple of quotes from differant places and they said around $1200![]()
