Default Price of new hydraulic lifters and camshaft?

The rattles are driving me nuts. I can't stand my otherwise mint car doing this a second longer! Not sure if I just need the lifters done, or the camshaft as well. Anyone had this done? Whats a ballpark figure for a job like this? :b:

Crane Cams have stock replacement hydraulic roller lifters for the VN V6 but I dont remember the price...I looked at them ages ago...Most performance places will know though as it will be listed in their Crane catalogue.

What kind of Camshaft do you want? Just stock replacement or a larger cam for performance?

i dont know what the cost is for replacement stock parts...but if you wanted performance gear it would be about $1300 for cam, lifters and chip (you would need a new tune to run the new cam)...plus you might be wise to get some new timeing gear while your at it.
thats just for parts though...add a couple hundred more in labour, unless you can do it yourself or get it done cheap.

Just after stockies. As a owner of a VN commo, I feel its fast enough for my daily needs. Its a A to B car, and I need to keep her economical. I have never had any experience where it didnt have enough acelaration. I find it can get me up to highway speed in impressive time. It scares the living s**t out of people who've been in 4 cylinder cars all their lives (LOL) That initial surge especially

sure, C.O.M.E. racing hydraulic roller cam and lifters $600...a chip to suit $600 do a little maths and you've got a figure, a figure thats very close to $1300 when freight costs are put into perspective.

i rebuilt my motor a few weeks a go and this is what it cost me.
850 for a crow cam stage 2 with chip, 180 for 12 acdelco lifters 100 for role master timing set and u will have to get timing cover gasket and crank seal and inlet manifold gaskets for around 50 bucks.

look, i didnt make the prices...im just telling you what those parts cost..if you've got a problem with that then fine, no skin off my back.
also to the people questioning the price of the chip, i agree, it's expensive...probably more so than a real time dyno tune....but thats what it costs for that chip.
and as for you airstrike the supposed moderator...dont you have something better to do with your time than sit here and give me sh*t when i was only trying to help out the bloke asking a question?

no worries man, i dont mind other people saying their piece ( at least what you had to say was contructive to the thread )...i apologise for my somewhat heated reply, it wasnt neccessary.
someone else's unconstructive post was what got me annoyed, i cant stand being critisised for just trying to help out.

Put lifter cleaner in my engine about 350kms ago. Noticed it has gotten quieter since I put this stuff in. Hmm, maybe I just need to replace the lifters (phew!) Thicker oil has been suggested, but is this really a good idea? I'm using GTX3...

I can't imagine that you would need to replace your camshaft, if you are only trying to cure some rattles, lifters on the other hand.

are you sure its the lifters/cam????????
you dont sound too sure, i had a annoying sound in my car... turned out to be pinging due to shit fuel... id be %100 sure before doing anything... and as for stock cams, i dont expect they'd cost that much for stocky ones any excuse me for pointing out he said its to get him from A to B, which means NO performance crow cams and no new chip....

if your lucky you might beable to find some off a wrecked motor, i dont imagine the cam shafts brake, as form hydrolic lifters/valve springs they might be rooted, how many k's has the engine got???

    hope that helps mate

Well I went through thinking it was everything, like everyone does. But I've been to my mechanic, he said it was the lifters MAYBE the cam as well, Probably just the lifters though he said. Put Nulon lifter clean through, cut the sound down by 60%. Next thing I'm gonna try is thicker oil and see if that helps. Some people think it can reduce lifter noise a bit.

People might think I'm over reacting to "a little lifter noise", but they have'nt heard this. Its quite loud at night when its quiet, specially in a tunnel or enclosed space. Am pretty happy with the lifter clean and just wanna nuke this sound completely. This sound just does'nt go with my newly installed Calais interior!
