The main issue I think is that you are using your handbrake! You're in a rear wheel drive!! Handbrakeys are for front wheel drive buzz boxes..

Handbrake may just need to be adjusted.. Just means that hes had his handbrake adjusted/repaired more recently than yours or yours hasn't etc. number of reasons.. Just cause your car has a dud handbreak, doesn't mean it can't be fixed. My handbrake is shockin, barely holds the car... Its on the to-do list lol

What I was sayin is your drivin a Commo, a rear wheel drive.. Thats all you need, lesser powerful cars or front wheel drive cars may require handbrake action to get sideways, but this isn't the case with a VP..

Commodores DONT drift..... you spend 10K on suspension, roll cage, maybe a diff, new engine, few other things, then well talk about driftin.... its not thta im against it... i love it.... but it aint gonna happen buddy!

aZk.... PS. use your handbrake, ### your handbrake... simple.

commi's arnt made to drift. Too heavy, most have no LSD, the suspension that comes out standard with em would have to be the worst ive ever seen, and the handeling is crap. Even the holden drift ute is s.hit and that has thousands spent on it. dont get me wrong i like commis and i own 1. but ya cant drift in 1. driftin is 4 jap cars there built for it.

cant drift a commy. wats wrong with use. i go to tracks alot just for drifting. with both my manual and my auto in my 88 vn ive had no problems. if u really wana drift. have ur car lowered with hard suspension. an lsd and some stockys. with that there should never be any issues. i can out drift my mates 180sx turbo engine bluebird most of the time. but then u cant just get in any car and drift it takes alot of practise and money on parts.

so if u wana drift like they do in tokyo. go there and become a rice burner. or practise some were that ur aloowed to do it.

and also if ur having trouble drifting on dirt. u really have no skills in that area wat so ever. sorry to say but its just my 2 sence and ive been drinking

try it in the wet in insdutrials , my car is on stock suspension and i can hang it sideways for half a street (commonly known as drifting) with no lsd (it ls's but it's a single spiner diff) . so on a diort road dont even touch yuor hand break just floot it and try and hold it sideways

    * in no way do i condone sideways driving or endorse it, it is fun, yes, bu in a controlled enviroment with medics on call (mobile fone) so please tkae care out there

I was walking back to my car from town like an hour ago, and there was this blue Nissan Pulsar with this massive tribal decal on the front, a big AND1 decal on the rear and decals on the mirrors and guards and everywhere...and i pointed it out to my mates and we were standing next to it pointing and laughing....then saw that the guy was actually sitting in the car...

I dont understand why some1 would do that to a Nissan Pulsar...

But back to the point..why do you wanna drift? And why do you wanna drift in a Commodore? Drifting is for jap crap, rice burners and 4 cylinder wanna-be's in general.

Are you chuckin the clutch in when you rip the hand brake up? It should lock the rears straight away..
Commodores do drift. I used to get my old VK going real good. No hand brake, open diff, 2L 4 cylinder. Just had to throw it really hard into the corner. Difting a V6 is quite a bit easier.

you can drift a commodore, you can drift just about anything on the power with RWD.

    1. FORGET the handbrake. that's for pussies. use the throttle.
    2. if you can't get the rear out on the power, you're suffering from reduced testiculation. now i'm not making fun of you because this is a good thing. you need to know your limits. but if you want to drift you need to explore and expand them. you're going to need to get your balls out a bit more at some point, the question is how to do it safely without hurting yourself or your car.
    3. find a safe spot where you can spin the car and not get hurt. this is not on a public road but since most of us can't afford a race track, you make your own decisions.
    4. explore your limits. there is no golden rule to drifting. you just need to develop a feel for how to steer the car with the throttle. you need to gain confidence and relax so you aren't gripping the wheel with white knuckles and throttling-off too quickly, etc. it's got to be smooth, confident and progressive.

    5. DON'T do it anywhere near other cars, people, trees anything at all. that's for idiots!
    6. best place is in the wet. you get more progressive slides and don't tear your tyres to bits as much.

OK.. for all you people saying "head to the corner and boot it"
This can be just as disastrous as using the hand break!

Drifting is a lot more complex than just having the back end fly out, one misjudgement and you could end up on your side from flipping into a gutter!

I don't recommend anyone to try and drift with a STOCK setup commodore on a dry road, the suspension possibly won't be able to hold, and all you'll be doing is a single pegger wheelspin (making you look worse)..

If you want to REALLY drift, go and get a Minispool diff (permanent LSD) or Detroit Locker (adjustable LSD) and get some nice 15's on the backend, maybe make sure all your engine components are in tip top condition, and make sure you're educated well enough to pull yourself out of mess ups!

    * in no way do i condone sideways driving or endorse it

Dont bother in the wet, if you dont have enough power, or a decent setup car.. You wont make it in the dry either..

To properly drift you dont need 700hp like the Capa-Drift team use.. They overpower the car and just use the excess power to its fullest to create a smoke show.. And barely drift..

Most D1 cars have HALF of that power. If you want to drift get about $10,000 Ready and then come and ask.. You wont get a holden drifting for cheap.

the original poster was just trying to get a bit of sideways action, i don't think he was trying to build a full competition drift machine.

the wet is the best way to have a bit of fun on a *quiet* bit of road without building a monster engine and fitting your car out with LSD etc. that stuff's all great but it's not necessary to just have a bit of fun every now and then..
