Hi,
I've got a series 1 VN v6 motor in a Hilux 4wd. Currently is has a Hilux 5 speed behind it. I don't know the history of the motor since I bought the car with the motor already installed. Anyway, I'm considering converting from the 5 speed to an auto.
Can I put an auto behind this engine, or would I need an engine that originally had an auto behind it? If I can, what's required? Do I need to change the computer?
ok, quick lesson, about gearbag's on the vn series commies
the auto in the series one is a good strong gearbox, look after it, it will look after you
the series1 and series2 motors are 2 different things, i guess the very first thing you need to make sure is that it's a series1, and not a series2
the series1 gearbox will bolt straight onto the series1 motor, no drama's, but you need to make sure it's a series1 gearbox.
series1 and series2 bolt onto different spots on the torque conveter, also, you will need to get a torque converter, rid of anything to do with manual all toether, remove pressure plates, clutch stuff like that
also, you will prob need to run down the wiring for the toruqe conveter clutch solenoid, and the park and neutral switch, all these should be in the wiring loom still, somewhere,
as for changing ecu's, no need to, just go and get a memcal out of a auto, and slip it straight in, it's as easy as that
cheers
