hey everyone,
my engine has problem seen better days and im looking to upgrade without paying to much. I was just wondering whether a v8 5.0 litre from a vn ss will fit straight into my vp commodore, replacing the 3.8 v6.
If so does anyone have any info or pics to show?
I have a feeling there are pictures about the swap on the other magazine powered commodore forums
thanx for asking the question, i just did a search on this topic and found this thread....i want to know as much as i can in terms of dropping a 5 litre into a commodore (costs if reconditioned, from wreckers, etc)
E Series
i looked on other threads but cant find anything. Has anyone seen anything on other forums at all?
Wouldnt be hard. V8 memcal, v8 k frame. Brake upgrade, gearbox??? wireing loom?? that should be abouot it. Maybe radiator
break up grade wow it will have fins on it now what an upgrade.
Those innocent looking breaks stop ALOT better than the stock size, well worth doing for anyone that still has the stockies
that brake upgrade is a MUST!!!! the law states that the brakes must be matched to the engine or better. So to get a mod plate which you would have to get cuase it didnt come factory with it.
You dont need any plate, at least not in Victoria. All you need is some kind of evidence that you have the right brakes/suspension and all other bits that came on the V8 option get your rego swap to V8 and new engine number and you are good to go. It's very easy to do the paperwork side of things. Takes just a few minutes. We've done it a few times over the years and never had any kind of trouble. I even put a 490cc motor in my factory 250cc bike and got it changed over one time (490 was the same frame)
ok ill be staight forward here without trying to sound bad. To seriously change the 3800 to 5litre is going to cost u lot of this $$$$$$$$$$$$$Originally Posted by QNLOOK
you should consider an ecotec upgrade same engine mounts and bolt on just loom upgrade etc... the v8 is nice and sweet but whats ur budget and wouldn't it be a smarter option to buy a v8 commodore but with the price of fuel i wish i still had my 3.8L.
If your going a v8 ur best bet is the GEN III vx +
