will a v6 vs engine bolt straight into a v6 vp and would i have to change the computer and loom?
yes yes and yes... lol I think that there would be a bit more work then a straight swap.. Front wireing loom would need to be changed ide say. You would also need to change gearbox and MAYBE tail shaft.. ummm but other then that it will BOLT up.
The wiring loom is different yes.. Computer would need to be changed.
VS has a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) and a BCM (Body Contol Module) as well which the VP does not.
If its an auto, the VS ran an elecronic gearbox, 4L60E, whilst the VP had the mecanical setup.
easiest way is to run a aftermarket computer
as u need to change engine\box, body and dash looms,
alot of work involved as all looms are inverwooven lol
vn\p run speedo to dash then comp
vr\s run speedo to comp then dash
biggest hurdle to get around
VN/P Loom, VN/P computer, theft disabled VR tune. (I'm going to assume the gearbox bolts onto the ecotec OK)
Why not lash out and do a VS engine and trans, along with
Why not lash out. Put the VS motor and trans in, along with a VS dash. Run full VS wiring.
Youve got me thinking about my next project. Im putting a Ecotec into my VP V8. My V8 engine is going into a UC Torana hatch. The torri is a unfinished project with a low KM ecotec motor.
If its gonna be an auto, I think most people would rather keep that standard 4l60 rather than use the 4l60e transmission out of a VS...The electronic gearbox doesnt shift like the VN/VP gearboxOriginally Posted by hatervp

Where as the VP engine is a straight drop in
VR is a little better internally but.
I can't believe this i thought the Ecotec was a drop in for the VPI have been building it up for next year and now it's not looking good at all
I could cry

The VP followed in 1991 and to date in our opinion is the best Commodore ever released. Even by 2005 standards we very rarely have to do any repairs to these ever reliable units bar general servicing.
OK i agreeOriginally Posted by 1991_Vn2nV

You know one thing out of all the Buick motors i see more VP's that don't sound as loud at the engine, My mates VR Berlina has a very loud engine. Guy down the road has one same as mine, Guy only 7 houses away has the same also, Both of them are quite running engines, Not as quite or anywhere near a Ecotec but very quite for Buick's.

Better than the Ecotec which sounds like a freakin blender on steroids

Ecotecs in a VY sound ace at peak revs (dual cats / semi dual zoorst makes all the difference)![]()
Interesting... I've only driven commodores up to VX and they all had that blender on steroids sound.Originally Posted by greenfoam

They do go alright the VY's, I have been in a VYII and they seem every bit as fast as a VS. They would kill a VT.
