Some old post had the VIN serial numbers of the VN starting at around 270,000 to 280,000. My VN owned from new on the 27/10/1988 was 306610. - Build date 6/10/88
Has any one have a lower serial no still running around?
Lowest so far 294,999 July 1988
Edit 294,956
Recalls 273,550 (no date)
Last found so far S/N 529,550

mines a 1990 model so mine will be fairly high
Adam
lol Mine is 495,218... Lets make it the highest wins a prize...
By the way the number of VN's made was 206,750....so 495,000-206,000 = 289,000. So I presume the lowest serial number would have to be around 295,000???
Considering VN's were made for a few months after mine still.
Note VN's were available from the 17/8/88 so yours would be one of the earliest made, first 10,000 or so?
oh well either way i loseOriginally Posted by 1991_Vn2nV

The production was about 5000 per month and they made around 5000 before releasing the mighty VN on the Aussie public
The other VN I have is a 91 V8 - has a number of 508619
But...then doesnt that mean the earliest possible number is 302,619???Originally Posted by 88GreenVN

When I said yours would have been one of the first, I meant as it was bought on the 27/10/1988 it obviously wasnt built on the same day... Its build date must be earlier so I would say only 10,000 woulda come before it... Whats the build date on your car?
I think the date was 5 Oct 1988. The car is on the road at the moment I'll look later. We had to wait for 2 weeks to get the car. They produced the pre release units (5000) in Aug 88 I think. I was always wondered about the 3 at the beginning of the serial number. I think 280,000 for the first is about the mark. It would be good to know!!
Also the 91 VN I have was sold on the 9/7/1991 - s/n 508619 Getting close to the last one. Has done 130k - I have the orig books too. Build date 28/5/91 - the last 3 months of production.
Just looked at the build date of the wagon and it was 6/10/88. I think the number built was closer to 214,000 - Seen on a big holden poster. Has anyone got a holden production poster with all the models and numbers built?

Adam
i can get the specs of the Holden 48 - 215 and onwards until the vx if u want?(not including the toranas)
Adam
Ah i didnt think to check the Southgate site.
I got my number from the unofficial holden commodore archive, but I guess it was wrong.
215,000 it is then....so that brings it back to 293,000?
Thanks Adam, Very helpful. That put the start serial number for the VN at around 293,439 less what ever the number produced after my 91 VN built on the 28/05/91. If they made around 5000 a month that would put the first at the 278,500 mark! And that would put my 88 VN wagon in the first 30,000 made.
i dont know where i got it from but ive had it for a whileOriginally Posted by 1991_Vn2nV

Ummm isnt that backwards? Its 293,439 PLUS what ever the number produced after your 91 VN on the 28/05/91Originally Posted by 88GreenVN

That also puts the 88 Wagon in the first 13,000 VN's produced! AND the 91 V8 in the last 13,000 produced.
I'll have to check mine tomorrow when I can actually see outside, but since it was 'built' 26th AUGUST 1988 (keep in mind they were released in September), it should be nice and low. AND it's a factory manual!
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
Look forward to your S/N - May make the picture a little clearer. The Wagon I have was a exec 5 speed. Now Calais auto (new loom with electric windows mirrors and dash).
Okay...just dug out an old insurance contract with my VIN on it...
296684
She's an early one alright.
OH...and just for the record...it's only got about 270,000km on it, so as far as a VN goes, it's still just a baby. Still runs like a dream too.
Gravity is proof that nature keeps getting us down.
Well that puts the last VN at around 511,864. That Make the 88 wagon I have inside the first 10,000 and the 91 Vn in the last 3000 made! getting closer the the final count!!! - also the wagon has done 319,000km from new. so your 270,000km is very low for a 88 VN
The production date of 26th AUGUST 1988 - S/N 296684 Is the lowest to date!! Any one else?
What about the last S/N of the VN? I have 28 May 91 - S/N 508,619 as the latest to date.
mine was made Oct 1988
Australia. Love it or leave it
So coolvncommodore your S/N will be around the 306600 mark?
