I rang up a few places today because i wanted to get my resinator taken off and some people quoted over $100. I thought that was a bit high but was willing to pay it till i rang this one place and they said they will do it for $44. I paid cash and it only ended up costing me $40. Now car sounds better![]()
What have other people payed? Why are some places charging over $100. What do they do thats different to the $40 guy.
Australia. Love it or leave it
mate got his done for 30. There is nothing to it. 1 cut and 1 weld. Ohh plus like 500mm of pipe.
You mean, just to take the actual muffler off? ... and replace it with what, straight pipe?

Yup the rear muffler. Pretty simple if you ask me, and some places were gonna charge me $120. It was a bit of a weight reduction aswell haha. The resinator had some weight about it. It was a pretty chunky one.

i would recommend taking an AIDS test afterwards if the EPA get hold you, they won't be impressed.
why...i was told its legal...they can only get u for noise if u revin out in 1st pretty muchOriginally Posted by jules
the VN has a catalytic converter, and a muffler downstream (at the tailpipe).
maybe i'm mistaken but you would need a muffler to meet noise regs. you can't remove the cat for emissions purposes (altho this is a bit pedantic, by now the cat is not doing much for emissions.)
oh well mine goes from extractors - y piece - cat - muffler - straight thru pipe (where resinotor is meant to be)v - tip.....i didnt know there was different set ups like that.Originally Posted by jules
I think the car is technically unroadworthy with only one resinator. You need two... I think.
Oh, and when I was changing my exhaust system, I got the exhaust shop down the road to hack off my over-axle bend and rear muffler for $10. The trick is not to let them invent the price. I drove up at 8am just after they opened, went "hey, would you blokes have a spare minute to hack my exhaust in half for ten bucks?" and they did it on the spot.![]()

haha, i'm fairly confident that to pass a roadworthy you'll need a second resinator on there. Shouldn't be too expensive though.

I don't think it matters how loud your car is. It's a legal requirement to have two resinators. A car with two mufflers making 70db of sound will be legal, and a car with one muffler making 50db of sound will not.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong?
(and I think cherrybombs count as a legal resinator.)

wrong... well in qld anyway. Law states you must have ATLEAST one muffler as well a catalytic converter if your car was manufactred with one.. I ony have 1 muffler no ressssy. Yes it is to loud but if you baby it next to the po they will never no.
Well a fair few people at school have the ressies taken off and havnt had a problem with police. yet. And yeah if you just baby it, it is still pretty quiet and no1 will know. But if i do have any trouble i still have the ressie they took off so i can just weld it back on.
On the way home a cop pulled up beside me and i was shittin myself because i just left the exhaust shop and thought i will get pulled over but i just drove normally, changed gears under revs and cops didnt even take a look or anythin.

Could be a state thing. I failed a roadworthy for having one resonator ^^

Heh, Just don't tell anyoneI liked the sound of my Commodore before, when it had a 2.5" system with one muffler and a busted cat. That's how I bought it ^^ As long as you don't have to get roadworthied (or canaried), you'll be fine.
Bleedin' laws... now I have a stock exhaust on there 'till I save up a few dollars for a good Redback or something similar![]()

I got a 2&1/2 inch catback zorst a couple of months ago with only one muffler i got the round one at the end of the zorst taken off and my car passed straite away.as long as you have your cat and one muffler your legal in VIC of been told
i got a redback exhuast 2 1/2 " and i reckon the sound is fine, i know it would be better if i had a strait throuhg pipe noise wise, but as for performance and sound on throotle i'm more than happy
You can fix that problem easy grab a hot dogOriginally Posted by coolvncommodore
