hey all
I was playing the grass. you know a couple of donuts and standstills, and now my car seems to wobble side to side at about 30ks but anywhere after that it's fine.
what could it be???
cheers for any help
my car did that, ended up being a bent axle + bent rim lol. only found out i bent my axle coz when i changed the rim over with the spare, there was a horrid squeaking every rotation. went down the wreckers and got a new axle put in for $100, easy fixed. hope its nothing more than that mate.
Cheers
Josh
great thats all i need lol
you wouldn't happen to have a price for the axle would you???
cheers
and i forgot to add that i was hitting speed bumps at about say 60 ks that wouldn't help much more would it
go get your wheels balanced to start with. but ide say its a front end thing. if you were hitting speed bumps at speed
but it don't seem to wobble in the steering wheel just the rear end of the car
maybe warped rotors?? or maybe loose wheel nuts??
Check your wheel nuts but I don't think that's your problem, rotors warped enough to shudder under acceleration would be VERY obvious under braking, so most likely not the problem either. If you were playing on grass, check to see if you've got any mud and crap inside your rims, that can unbalance them.Originally Posted by IhateRICE!
sorry bout the late reply, axle's are fairly cheap, got mine put in for like $100. my car did the same thing when it had a bent axle/rim, going at about 20km/h the back right hand side of the car would flick out every rotation, not enough to notice from outside the car but enough to feel it in the steering wheel and through the seat
yeah sounds like the axle

hey all thanks for the help
but i don't seem to feel it in the steering and i looked under the car the sarvo and the axle looks straight.. so could it be a loose tailshaft??? like a loose uni??
cheers
A uni joint or tailshaft will not cause the car to wobble on the road. You will feel a vibration through the body.
You would have to have a hell of a bend in the axle housing to see it by looking under the car. What everyone is talking about is the outer end or flange of the axle where the wheel bolts on. It is fairly easy to bend the flange when you hit something. You would have to be flying through the air like the Dukes of Hazzard to bend the housing.
Jack up the rear of the car and turn the wheel by hand. Iook closely at the wheel, not the tyre, and see if it wobbles. If the wheel is buckled then fit the spare and try again. If that fixes the problem you have a buckled wheel. If it still wobbles then the axle flange is bent.
You can confirm this by removing the brake disc and turning the axle. This is normally done with a dial gauge on the flange but if it is bad enough you will see it easily. If you are not sure then get something like a pencil sticky taped onto a brick and turn the axle with the point of the pencil just touching it. If it touches on one side but there is a small gap on the other then the flange is bent.
A bent flange will also cause the disc to wobble. This will cause the disc to try and push the pads from side to side in the caliper and you should feel it through the brake pedal.
Make sure you know exactly what the problem is before you buy anything as guessing can be expensive. Be careful when buying wrecking yard axles because many are bent.
Hitting a speed hump at 60 ks will not hurt anything. Hitting one at 160 most likely won't do any harm either unless you have extremly low profile tyres. GM put the prototypes through a lot worse than that during the development of the cars.

thanks brian abd all for the help
i will have to check is out and i'll get back to you all
cheers
