hey guys just wondering of the door surrounds below the windows can be paint stripped and sanded so they come up chrome? of course u will have 2 use a bit of autosol or sumthin but yea i have heard that the top ones come up fine. thanx
Top ones just screw off, but I do believe the bottom ones are a right royal pain in the ass. And some people do say they've sanded and polished them, and gotten a lovely chromeIf not, you can always prime them up and spray them with some chrome paint from Autobarn. Just don't know how long it would last before it flaked... (probably as long as the stock window trims, I presume, in which case - not long) ^^

Why not buy some VP Calais ones? Careful which ones you get because they rust out where they slide on, causing them to stick up.
Because the VP Calais ones do not look as nice... the chrome strip is small, and doesnt look that nice on the rear quarter window.Originally Posted by HATER VP
Paint stripper to get rid of the grey then polish it up with autosol man. Will look sweet. If ya cant take he bottom ones off, just do it with them on the car. Cover all the paint up with something though like a plastic or something so that you get paint stripper on your car.
I posted a few pics in another thread about this, so I will find the thread and post it here so you can have a look at some pics.
Heres some pics, note that one is a before pic, followed by an after pic:

Do VR/VS window gutters fit on a VN?
thats awesome, i was going to spray mine black cos the crappy grey dosent go with anything else on the car... cheers dude, i will do it on the weekend and post some pics
i colour coded mine a little wile ago
the tops just screw off the the bottom ones dont, so i just sprayed them wile they were on the car, masked up really well though so no overspray got on the car
I would do mine, but you cant do the doors as its plastic.
umm, the doors should be metal or whatever, im pretty sure its only vp onwards they changed to plastic, possibly even vr onwards.
both of my vn wagons are metal door ones.
yep just checked mine theyre metal, but what do you do about the rubbers on the door strips? Wont the paint stripper eat the crap out of this?
Use a peice of cotton wool or something with the paint stripper.. Take your time and do it slowly so you dont get it on anything else...
Link should work now!
Yeah go for it man! Would look good with the chrome on the side strips especially![]()
hey do these come up chrome all the way around? like as some one said it may not of been in this conversation but the rear bottom part dont come up as well as the others is this true
cheers
Its all made out of the same stuff, yes it all comes up the same. You've dug up like 5 threads on window trims lol
lol now more people will be doing it, i hate the grey i like it either chrome or black, i like the chrome more now, dont sand it back people cause it doesnt turn out as nice, like the above people said use paint stripper then take it off with a plastic scrapper and scrape if off let the paint stripper sit for abit and you will see it bubbling the old paint up but dont leave it to long so it drys then you will have problems, also dont leave them around where the dog can get them cause they dont turn out good after they have been chewed up.
All VNs are alloy not plastic and it wont hurt the rubber around the surrounds it just cleans it up when u wipe if off, the bottom surrounds arn't hard at all to get off just use a flat head at one end and prye if off and then pull them off with your hands, with the front surrounds you have to remove the front mirrors so it is easyer to get the surrounds off. i also used autosol comes up great. good luck.
