For all those people who ask what a redback system sounds like well here is a video. Note the resonator has been taken off.
enjoy

Not bad man... My exhaust doesnt make much noise at high rpm, how about yours?
its loudest in the 2000-4000rev range
Yeah... Mines pretty much the same![]()

What size pipes are they Stock cat with 2.5 pipes 2 mufflers?
ride; [GMHVN6] Project Streeter - VN Berlina '90 mods; 65mm throttle-body / Cold Air Intake / 8mm Ignition Leads / Exhaust
future; Extractors , Cam currently; 101.2rwkw mission; 110rwkw
2.5inch.. stock cat, center mufler and straight through pipe no resonator.
speaking of which, is there a good place to get a cheap system excluding extractors?, even if its half dodgy and u have to send me to a guy named nick, i dont care haha cheers guys
Don't blame me, It's that damn percadan..
If you ask me, that stuff rots your brain...
And now a word from our new sponsor.. Percadan? oh crap!
Theres plenty of places around that will do a 2.5" cat back for $250... but I doubt you will get much cheaper than thatOriginally Posted by Keesh

yer i was looking for about that, my mate had his done for 170 and i thought that was awsome but i saw the guy and he only does them on fords, so after all that cannon crap i decided if i can get it done around 200-50 id go for it.. i was wondering if anyone has taken both resinators out? or just the middle one, i just wanted to no how different they all sound with different components left in/out and if hiflow cat does anything to the sound

The only resonator is the one at the rear, the middle one is just a muffler and EVERYONE has a muffler. Don't even think about not having oneOriginally Posted by Keesh

Seeing as you wanna stick to cheap then dont bother with a resonator, just a straight through pipe after the muffler but the best option is with a high flow resonator...it gives a deeper and meaner note and stops droning.
High flow cats are expensive and a waste of money imo if you're just getting a single 2.5" system. For a twin cat system or a full 3 inch zorst with extractors maybe, but thats about it.
Could be worse - try living in Sydney where the cheapest place around is around $350 - $450
After i BS'd the guy doing it (Carline) he did my Lukey for $420 instead of the $470 he originally quoted.
And $470 was cheap compared to some others (Midas wanted $570)
Yeah i have IRS. Does that add a bit to the price does it?
haha your neighbours must hate you!
Yeah it does add a bit but I wouldnt think it would add tooooo much moreOriginally Posted by Mr_Slim

mine cost me $330 i think, that was with a resonator installed.. Biggest mistake, the guy told me id get drone if i didnt get the resonator. I left the joint with a car sounding exactly the same. Pretty pissed off so i got the resonator taken off and then i noticed a difference, and it doesnt drone inside the car either.![]()
yeh no drone from my redback either. mines a lil louder(could be the extractors, i dunno) do u find urs sounds alot better when its warmed up??
jokes..ahahaha i get jokes
Yeah its a little louder when hot, but the best part its silent when you take ur foot off so cops dont hear itOriginally Posted by vpdood
But I dont think it would be too much over the db limit.
i copped the same thing! when i first went to carline, the guy asked me what i wanted, and i told him just 1 muffler, thats it. then i get it installed and drive off. Sounds exactly the same. I'm like WTF.Originally Posted by VNPOWER
So i take a look underneath and there it is, 1 muffler, 1 resonator. i call Carline back and they go "oh its illeagal to only have 1 muffler no resonator" so im like no worries i'll live.
Over time its sounded better, but how much does it cost to get that resonator out, and just put in a pipe?

but if its just as illeagle to have no resinator then wats stopping me from just doing wat all the other cheapskates do and saw my whole system off from the muffler

The difference is, just having no resonator wont get you pulled over because police wont notice. Sawing off your whole system from the muffler will get you pulled over, and soon.Originally Posted by Keesh
Although its not illegal to not have a resonator anyway... There is nothing in the SA Guidelines regarding exhausts that mentions it:
But as for sawing the exhaust system off at the muffler, you will get done for it being too loud and also:Replacement Exhaust Systems
Extractors and aftermarket exhaust systems may be fitted provided that the sound levels specified in the Road Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Rules 1999 are not exceeded. On vehicles required to comply with ADRs 26, 27 or 27A, extractors may be fitted provided that any emission control devices, which were originally fitted to the exhaust system, are re-connected and operative. Vehicles required to comply with ADR 37 or 37/.. may be fitted with extractors or after market exhaust systems provided that the catalytic converter is retained and any mission control equipment fitted to the original exhaust is incorporated in the replacement item.
And heres the law regarding it being too loud:For vehicles manufactured on or after 1st July 1988
The exhaust must exit to the rear or on the right hand side and extend at least 40 millimetres beyond the furthermost outboard or rearmost joint of the floor pan that is not continuously welded or permanently sealed. No exhaust outlet is to extend beyond the perimeter of the vehicle when viewed in plan. The exhaust outlet, if to the side of the vehicle, shall discharge to the right hand side of the vehicle and downwards at an angle to the horizontal of not less than 15 degrees and not more than 45 degrees.
The exhaust outlet, if to the rear, shall discharge at not less than 10 degrees above or 45 degrees below the horizontal.
Notice it says stationary? Thats part of the advantage of a resonator, it reduces drone and idle noise, but when you put the pedal to the medal it's just as loud but its a meaner, deeper note if you get the right resonator!Exhaust Noise
The exhaust systems on vehicles manufactured on or after 1st January, 1974 must at the time of first registration comply with ADR 28 - Motor Vehicle Noise. In service all vehicles must comply with the Road Traffic (Vehicle Standards) Rules 1999 Part 10 Division 3 –Noise Emissions.
For passenger cars, derivates and panel vans manufactured on or after 1 January 1983 the stationary noise level
when tested must not exceed 90 dB(A).
