    Default Buying a vn

thinking about buying a vn if it comes up cheap just want to know what to look for thats wrong in it like normal places for rust also how to tell series 1 and 2 apart. some pretty comman faults to look for. I know its maroon a v6 and auto. The guy is buying a vx and was going to take the vn to the wreckers so i might get it real cheap depends how nice hes going to be.

hmm, stuff to look for...ok, check around the power steering pump and reservoir for signs of leaking, also listen to steering when you take it for a drive...if possible get it up on a hoist or some ramps and look underneath (everything is revealed when your under a car) check for signs of dryed oil on the engine or perished suspension bushes, as well as signs that its been in a bad crash...
check out the boot and rear windscreen/rear pillers thouroughly for rust, this is where it will be if there is any, it will most likely also have a boot leak (as most do) so the carpet in the boot will probably stink and the underlay will probably be falling apart...
an easy way to tell series 1 or ll is to check if it has a radiator cap, if it doesnt its a series 1. (plenty of other ways, but thats pretty straight forward)
being an auto take if for a drive, feel/listen for laboured or noisey gear shifts and get it up to 80k/hr...feel the converter lock up and then back off, if its shuddering and/or you can hear a loud vibration the converter is stuffed.
other than that just check to see everything works (electricals,dash.etc..) and see how it drives..good luck.

    ok

check for oil leaks (main rear is the one u gotta look for)
    master brake cyclinder leaking
rust under the boot carpet in the H frame for the tow bar if it has it
check for cracked paint in the enginebay, if it has cracked paint then chances are its been in a smash like mine, also if u can jack it up and remove the front inner guards and check that paint
listen for idle noises, check radiator overflow for oil/rust in fluid
check for rust around front window
most of all feel how she drives the buick engines dont usualy fail before the rest of the car, its everything else that brakes, trust me on that one
check for smoke out the exhust
put a peice of paper over the exhust, if its sucking in then blowing out its got rooted valves or they're not opening properly
check to see if the starter works fine, i had a old one in mine that gutted half my ring gear,
push on each corner of the car if it bounces then the suspension is worn, if it springs back to place shes all good
    listen for unusal idle noises

pretty much sir cruize alot outlined it all
over all feel how she drives, they'res a abundance of parts for em so fixin them aint hard or expensive
    good luck mate
