    Default fitting o2 sensor

The NZ VN commies didn't have the o2 sensor fitted in the exhaust. if i fit the o2 sensor (the wiring is there for it) will it work or will i need to change the memcal also

I too live in NZ and have no oxy sensor but want one someone help us.
Strangly winaldl still gives me an O2 reading must be a calculated value from the memcal or ecu.Probably goes better without the O2 sensor changing the fuel mix anyway but I want lean cruize god dammit.

would need to know the code on the memcal to see. Some NZ calibrations have it disabled but the data list still shows it.

yep thats a specific NZ cal, made for leaded fuel
you will need to get an aussie cal to get the oxy sensor working.
do you know anyone with an eprom programmer to read off that memcal?
i dont have it on file , be nice to add to my collection

Doctorbob that memcal above was out of my vp I just got my mate ecu after it sh** itself coolant temp said 30 degrees even after a new sensor used to cough off idle and smoke from too much fuel new ecu fixed that so ive got another memcal it is a vnv6 one APDL0288 if you can burn me a copy of the hsv3.8 chip ill send you the chip out of this one if you want it I just havnt got my burner yet.and cant read it or burn me something better than what ive got might even plug in the vn memcal into me vp I took the bellmouth out and it went better low down but think its starving for fuel up top cos ive got no O2 sensor its still feeding in the same amount of gas as it did with the bellmouth in it seams that the bellmouth is quite restrictive but I have put it back in incase it is running to lean I here that holden tuned them over rich to protect the engine a bit but I can tell its just not enough.

put in my sensor works all good no problems getting it in and going .even displays o2 sensor data on winaldl without it activated in the tune .all wires were there ready to go.just experimenting with a few tunes at the moment cant wait for my burner to get here in a few days.

A sensor is a sensor. As long as it has the same number of wires then it will be OK.

yeah probably put any of the australian vn-vp v6 tunes in just to get going with the o2 sensor but I want to tune a memcal perfectly for my vp instead of the close enough factory setup.tried the hsv one havent tried anyone elses tunes probably wont even bother just gonna jump straight in to the tune in the vp allready.just bought another o2 sensor for my mates vn trident this time cost $80 nz got a two wire one even though it only needed a one wire one just to make sure it has a good earth.

immortality hurry up and get that o2 sensor my mate says your missing out on a good thing put the hsv3.8 tune in there for a start the gain is worth the cost of the sensor if you have a pod and decent exhaust.my mate says his goes mad compared to the nz vn tune I noticed the difference just backing out the drive.hes just done 400kms on his new tune saved quarter of a tank of gas compared to normal.does the same trip couple of times a week.we are gonna work on a better tune for his vn after my vp should team up on some testing and information sharing on how we can emprove the tune.two heads and two opinions are better one.

I get the sensors from my parts man have an account with him get good discount about $80-$90 have had one bosch one and one trident one both seam to work good time will tell how long they will last bosch part number above in previous post will post up the trident part number later for you the box is in my mates shed round the road the bosch one came with a flange with two bolt holes for another type of fitment if you drill a hole in your headers you could weld this flange over the hole and then youve got the right thread to screw it into.IOf you dont get a sensor with the flange I could post it up to you so you can weld it on.People have had trouble with the sensors not earthing properly so I only install two wire one to make sure theyve got a good earth about twenty dollars cheaper for a single wire one but id be going two wire if you have extractors.
