Ok, I've finally decided to stop bludging off other peoples cars and get something of my own. My mate is getting rid of his 1988 vn exec for around $3k. It's a manual with new clutch, tyres and a nice flashy new spray.
Pretty much all he has done to the car is lower it and recently put in a calais interior, and this was done before the last time it got rego. It has about 200k on the clock but it has been reasonably well looked after.
In the case that it is actually ok (after a friend looks over it for me), is there anything in particular I should look out for. Does this appear to be a good choice, if not how come?
get an inspection done, they can tell you 100x more than someone over a msg board.
Thanks PIMPIN, and yea I wasn't going to go right out and get it soley due to a message board, but it's allways good to have extra insight...
Obviously, it's a series 1 VN. Recommended upgrade when one comes up on Ebay or such is the Coil Pack. Late Series 2 models and VP/VR coil packs are the go. They have 3 separate/ removable coils for 2 cylinders each and have been reported to give some extra kW. I swapped mine over afer the original combined pack gave up. Keep one spare for that rainy day and it will probably come if you have an early VN. Easy fit and will save you kicking your doors in.![]()
yer, check this website, it's got a list of the known problems with the VN just check these out
