So Im driving home the other night and the engine cuts out. I come to a stop, re start it, travel down the road for a minute, happens again. I keep repeating this till I get home.
I let it rest for a bit and went out again, it seemed ok, no more cutting out of the engine.
Today in my job I did another 160kms in it, the engine DIDNT cut out once.
Obviously something must have caused it, or is wrong, but I have no idea where to start even thinking where the problem might be.
I did have a slight water leak that was causing temp. to run higher than normal by a bit, but I fixed that and its all good now. But I cant see this having anything to do with it. What do you think? thank you.
CAS on its way out maybe
Does it start straight away after stopping or do you have to wait a few minutes.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
started straight away after each time it cut out, once I came to a stop of course.Could have cut out up to ten times possibly!
CAS, if its at fault, whats one of em worth approx?
Woha... Mine done the same thing about 20 mins ago.... had to wait bout a minute to start it again.... then it ran fine til the next set of lights n kaput then same thing bout a minute again n it got me home.... just about to go trip some codes.... come to think of it i put a new themostat and Coolent temp sensor in the other day too....
no shit ! :0)
f you could let me know what you come up with that would be muchly appreciated. I got very little idea car wise ...
everyone says CAS,
could be the DFI moduel aswell... as they get quite alot of heat as they're bolted to the engine
so its either the CAS or DFI moduel
i had to replace both before i found my problem
is a CAS a crank angle sensor? And what does it do ?
what about fuel line blockage perhaps?
fuel starvation can stall a car pretty quick
We got rep back, yaaay!
comtim: did u check ur ECU codes???
My Saga Continues..........
so i rest my ecu, then went for a cruise...... and then it happened 5 times it took me to get bout 1k home.... worse this time than last. i went to the servo then out of it bout 20 mtrs and kaput.... came home and only pulled Code 15 out of the ecu and thats cos i put a new frikken Coolent temp sensor in on sat and i reckon the dick at repco gave me the wrong one as he didnt know wtf he was doing (was bout 15 and didnt know what a 88 s1 vn v6 was.....) so i will be taking it back and shovin it up his a$$.![]()
My question is could it be that that is making my car be a biatch?? it seems to me that its Fuel as if it was CAS or DFI it would come up in the Fault codes??
im lost.......
The crank angle sensor tells the computer where the engine is in the combustion cycle so the computer knows when to fire the spark plugs and the injectors. Usually the CAS develops a crack in it and the expansion due to heat causes a break in the continuity of the sensor and the engine stops. After the engine stops the sensor cools down and reconnects so the engine will start again. If the engine doesnt start for a few minutes after stopping it is the CAS. The easy way to test this is to pour water on the CAS (located behind the crankshaft pulley) when it stops and if it starts straight away it stuffed.Originally Posted by comtim

Did you hold it at 3000rpm for 10secs on the first start after resetting the ECU?Originally Posted by m3taL

Would a Stuffed CAS Show up in Diagnotic Code?? or not?
Yes it would show up as code 41Originally Posted by m3taL
Damnshit its not that then.......... i will get a propper Coolent temp sensor and clear that code and get a CLear 12 then go for another spin and see if it faults again i am guessing and its sounding a lot like a Fuel pump.....
Lil bit of car history. It has been sitting for around 10 months dont think it was driven not sure if it was started i will contact the owner and find out.... is there anyway i can test the fuel pump?? or well i guess it will just Die sooner or later its the only thing i can think it could be. would the car sitting Rot a fuel pump??
and does anyone know what one is worth maybe i will just get a new one and if its not it i will just keep the oldie as a spare if i need it.
Try clearing the codes now and go for another drive to see what it records. A coolant temp sensor would not cause it to stall, it would only make it run rich at the worst.
Sitting around for 10 months could cause alot of probs.
I actually dont know how to measure codes. Can someone point me towards some info on how to do this ? That would help alot.
Since the orginal problem in the first thread, I have done 4ookms and it hasnt stalled again yet. Go figure! It really has me on edge when driving !
i bought some cheap fuel in melbourne once. it was fine for the first 2.5 hours then my cars kept dieing.. i kept starting it and going a bit further. finally i got home and put more fuel in it. so i don't know if it was dirty fuel or what. but it never ever did it agian.. could be the same sort of thing..

My car used to do the exact same thing.. i thort it would of been the CAS or maybe fuel pump.I took it 2 an auto electrician, no codes showed up, and he culdnt find anything wrong for 2 days, except for a leaking coil pack.Wether or not this was the actual cause, im not too sure.. but 1 brand new coil pack later and it hasnt happened since i got it back![]()
My baby is better
i dunno wtf is goin on but all my Ecu codes have cleared i reset the ecu again then went for a drive, then kept driving.... then went from the east to the west and back.. done bout 400ks this weekend in it... Done Airfilter/Plugs/leads today and she is runnin even better now...... Weird cars they are
