Hey all, my fuel pump sounds like its dead... Was making a bit of noise last night when i started VN2NV up
Also i've noticed the car struggling to idle a bit on startup and did think it might be the spark plugs, but the fuel pump would explain it.
So... heres my question.. What options do I have in aftermarket fuel pumps and what are their prices? In the next 12-18 months im hoping to have around 220rwkw with a Raptor S/C on 11psi, so will a higher pressure fuel pump be worth the $$$ or not?
Options at the moment..
Stock Commodore Fuel Pump = $120?
Bosch 040 Fuel Pump = ???
Bosch 044 Fuel Pump = ???
Any information on any of these pumps would be awesome guys, thanks!
Just came across this in the For Sale section:
1 * BOSCH Genuine 040 Pump => good for up to 370HP $220
1 * BOSCH Genuine 044 Pump => good for up to 700HP $240
I figure $20 extra I might as well grab the 044 pump... Even though the 040 will definitely do for my needs... Theres no harm in using the 044 is there, like is it too big for a mild V6?
And what am I looking at to get this fitted...I dont know how the external pumps hook up etc.?

So are you/have you bought this pump already?
Well I was hopin for someone to confirm that its fine to have on my engine..
But I msged the guy and said I'd definitely take it. So im awaiting his bank details so i can make a bank deposit.
My car is not running now.. So I want this fuel pump asap so i can get VN2NV back on the road hehe
how modified is your engine or how much do you want to mod it?
if its got minimal mods just put a stock one on there.
We got rep back, yaaay!
In terms of the actual engine just a stage 2 crow cam at the moment.Originally Posted by JDZVNHSV
But im saving for a Raptor Supercharger as well and hoping to have between 200-250rwkw by the end of next year...
So I figure if its fine for my engine at the moment, instead of spending $120 on a standard fuel pump, I spend the $240 on the 044 while I can get it that cheap??
Trying ringing mechanics that specialize in fuel pumps? I think that would be the best bet.
The 044 would be far to big. My mate has a 355 VN that makes around 280rwkw and its a tad big for that even. Also the 044 is an external pump, not an internal. I would look at the 040 or even a Walbro. Walbro make an internal pump that flows 255 Litres per hour for around $250 versus the 040 which flows 102 Litres per hour an retails for around $350.........
Once my stroker goes in (long time yet) i'm looking at running the walbro in tank feeding a 044.

The reason im looking at the 044 now is that its only $240, which is dirt cheap for one really.Originally Posted by AirStrike
So will it cause any problems if I run the 044 until I get the Raptor Supercharger?
Also does the internal pump HAVE to work? I rang a mechanic today and he said the external pump can work on its own, they just rip the internal one out...
What do they plan on using to fill the gap where the intake was? As for using the 044 now, I would think you would have problems. You would be supplying more fuel then the engine needs causing it to run really rich (same as when I tried some VS GTS injectors on my car).Originally Posted by 1991_Vn2nV

probaly run a bit rich...
Ah ok. Im not sure what they plan to put in its spot... but my mechanic said he would speak to me about it Thursday... So I will see what he suggests.
if you run too much fuel pressure on a stock fuel system you will cause damage. it is possible to blow the fuel hoses apart some injectors wont cope with the high pressure and will pack it in also your fuel pressure regulator will die and it will either supply max pressure to the fuel system causing it to run rich or blow parts off ect, or it will let the fuel bi pass it and there will be no pressure and then you will be back where you started.
basicly if you upgrade your fuel pump you need to upgrade your fuel sustem
standard commodore/falcon fuel pressure is about 40psi
(i may be wrong)

I know a guy with a Nissan Silvia SR20Det running one of these pumps. Car is just a stock SR20Det and he is having no troubles.
Would a silvia use a bigger pump than a commy stock?

go for a walbro. i have heard only good things from my mates who have had them in vs's vn's and vp's..
220rwkw? ......11psi? i hope you will be rebuilding your engine before that mod as with the cam already raising lift you would be getting some serious pinging issues from your pistons. Cams also mask the inefficientcies engine... make sure u check your valve lift before fitting your rocker covers. Pinging can cause damage.
only good cops a dead cop...

Yeah a rebuild will happen right before I get the supercharger and I wont be running the Crow Cam with the supercharger anyway.Originally Posted by VNV6VENGEANCE
