    Default cutting springs how to

alright guys to start with i know how bad cutting springs for a car that is going to be on the road is!! but my exec is just going to be a paddock basher that just wants to be on bumpstops but still with springs in there for the occaisional bump. how do i cut the springs and if its a stock spring how many coils should i take off to be equal to ultra lows and once again this car is not going to be on the road and is not going to be going fast so guys dont judge me on this and tell me how bad it is to cut springs coz i already know thats y its on a paddock basher thanks guys

a paddock basher in my opinion needs stock springs, so many bumps and shit, but if you really do wanna cut em, find the biggest tree on your farm, climb it, then jump head first into the ground, then you can gauge the same affects of chopped springs

hahah just take the springs out, it'll be SACKED!

and keep in mind that if you're going to cut them, you might as well just spend 100 bux for a set of 2nd hand (or cheap new) springs, and save yourself the work cutting them, and cost of angle grinder blades.

i did the same thing to my vc basher
with the front springs i cut 1 coil off in the car (DONT DO THAT ITS KINDA DANGEROUS the spring is still under load when jacked up) and i drove it round for an hour and the spring came unseated wound down the strut and ripped the side out of the tyre.
with the rears i cut 2 coils off and used hose clamps to hold them in place. had no trouble with them.
it looked sweet when it was done

I would have thought you'd want all the ride height you can get, but if you're gona do it, just make sure you dont take so much off that the springs aren't still captive (same height as ultra lows won't be captive in the back). I assume you're going to be driving it pretty hard and comming close to getting the springs to fall out. You'll have more fun without chopping them IMO..

i agree that leaving the stock springs in are the go... cut springs are nothing but a pain in the ass especially in a paddock where they'll just fall out and as someone said earlier rip out the side of a tyre
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!

Yeah, you will have more fun driving around with normal springs and you can practise driving for longer around in the paddock without beaching yourself on a bump.

EDIT: i dont condone the use of cut springs and anyone who does it deserves anything that comes to them

My car had cut springs and they are on the nose i believe, I waited 12 months to get my car done right. And in that 12 months i was riding standard height springs, I couldn't hit a bump it was shit to drive so heavy feeling and not for the bumps. It's on another planted now.

Why wouldn't they find some raised springs for big jumps??

agreed stocky, i suggest you remove the quote aswell

for paddock bashing its a stupid idea
in general its a stupid idea
but stupid people have stupid idea's

some basic maths 800kg MAX compression - 300kg for the coils you remove = 500kg on each corner (probbly wrong on exacts but using it as a example)
car weight say 1400kg, max spring compression now = 2000kg, add 2 people to the car = 1550kg... hit a speed hump = alot of G forces = 1550kg x3

BANG you've just rammed your diff into your wheel arch....trust me... my wheel arch already has big dints in it from my diff and ive got good springs...
you will **** up your ride

its gunna be pretty funny when your sittin on your rims cos your springs punctured your tyres and your shockers fall out . I bet you will be wishing you listened to all these 20 or so ppl that are saying DON'T DO THIS OR YOU WILL HURT YOURSELF. but sure just cut a few coils off it'll be fine

not that i condone this action but rather then cutting the springs, get a gas set and slowly heat the coils untill they loose there tension and collapse onto the coil below, no need to jack the car and remove the springs this way and its easy to make all the springs to the exact height you want. still i recommend to get a cheap set of ebay or something, much safer
