alot of effort! The motor your talking about is the Gen3 ls1. A few people have done this... Castlemaine Rod Shop supply many of the parts you will need which are, custom engine mounts, trans x-member, reverse starter mounting bracket, modified loom. not too mention the other custom things you might come accross like the exhaust, so its not for the fient hearted. It would guesstimate an easy 10K depending on what you do yourself it may be more.

Well remeber the VN had the 5.0L in it without any modification to the chassis and many people have put high powered 5.0L's in them (chargers etc) and no problem there. Just make sure you use all the v8 running gear ie. suspension, brakes, diff etc.

Its not the power that is the issue, its getting it in and fitting everything.. Thats where ALOT of the costing will come from.
There are alot of custom pieces that need to be made which send the price sky rocketing

That car with the carby ls1 was built by a 17 year old kid and cost "10,000" total not 100,000

You could spend less than 10g on say VT/VX and get a 12 second car i would imagine.
    A 350 in a VN would be a full 'sleeeper', but 10 g..... ****

if you've got 10g to spend you might as well sell your car add that to the 10 then buy a one of the vt ss' with the 5.7ltr gen III. No f#cking around needed...

And then you end up with a stock VT SS, not that enthralling if you ask me...

Stock but I reckon it will have alot less issues than the VN, handle better, be more comfortable and have a better resale compared to a VN with mods etc. Besides, that 10gs is only to get the motor in so its a near stock motor.

The weight difference between a VT and a VN will play a large part in a faster time. One of the main advantages of the VT is the IRS, which isnt a great system anyway. Id love to drop a gen 3 into a VN, have to have the T56 behind it though, and a 3.9 diff. The engine and box your getting is better than a VT one as well. the manifolds on the early gen 3s isnt the best, the better ones are on the later ones. Do it, do it do it, cant wait to see the results

I agree. It'll go hard and you will be an individual with a unique car. Not just some plain random vt ss. It will cost you but if you have the cash then who cares?............Do it!!!!!!

Forced induction, a nice big single turbo bolted onto the side, im thinkin maybe 500+rwkw, sounds like a bit of fun to me

Default LS1 and T56 into VG Ute

    Guys,
Just about to put a gen3 LS1 with T56 6 speed and computer into a VG (VN) ute.....just waiting for the loom before I start.
No plans yet on mods except for mafless tune to get about 280fwkw, but seeing the current 250,000K 5L and T5 still manage to easily spin the wheels in 1st and 2nd (tare is 1200kg, for a VT its about 1600kg I think, and then they get heavier ), the mafless tune should do for now.
Current costs so far (uncluding the ute and a full suspension nolathaning) about $13K, and probably about $2-3K more for the tune/tyres/bits.
Once I start I'll start posting.
The biggest challenges, given the availability of kits, in order seem to be:
    - Loom and integration
    - Clutch pedal and hydraulics
    - Fuel pump stuff.

Other than that just elbow grease and patience (I'm going to do it myself as much as possible).

    Catchyas!
