hey guys i was just wondering how much effort it would take to put i think its 5.7ltr but its the engine out of a hsv gto coupe and the six speed manual box into my vn exec. would i have to change much?? any help apprieciated
alot of effort! The motor your talking about is the Gen3 ls1. A few people have done this... Castlemaine Rod Shop supply many of the parts you will need which are, custom engine mounts, trans x-member, reverse starter mounting bracket, modified loom. not too mention the other custom things you might come accross like the exhaust, so its not for the fient hearted. It would guesstimate an easy 10K depending on what you do yourself it may be more.
yea someguy in one of the street commodores mags has this done
Check Out My Ride Here: 91 VN Calais[/CENTER]
i was talking to a mate who said id have to reinforce my chassis rails because they would twist is this true? and id try and do close to all the work my self
Well remeber the VN had the 5.0L in it without any modification to the chassis and many people have put high powered 5.0L's in them (chargers etc) and no problem there. Just make sure you use all the v8 running gear ie. suspension, brakes, diff etc.Originally Posted by canb_vn06
Its not the power that is the issue, its getting it in and fitting everything.. Thats where ALOT of the costing will come from.
There are alot of custom pieces that need to be made which send the price sky rocketing

could anyone here get me a rough quote on how much??
well if you have a house remorgage it cause its gonna cost a bit i remember reading on the streetcommodore forums the guy has put into close on $100,000 so far but his was carby fed and i think he chaged back to injectors but still a shit load of money ill see if i can find the link if im alowed to post it
That car with the carby ls1 was built by a 17 year old kid and cost "10,000" total not 100,000

Cheers, Gaz
lol oh well i was close wasnt i :P
flat 12s i actually might fork out the dollars now to do this conversion
if you've got 10g to spend you might as well sell your car add that to the 10 then buy a one of the vt ss' with the 5.7ltr gen III. No f#cking around needed...
only good cops a dead cop...
s1 vn commodore turbo
t3/t4 front mounted turbo
Intercooler ---3"exhaust
stage 2 shift kit---B&M Qicksilver shifter
3:45 lsd
18" Cv8z Monaro rims 245's
got to remember that the vn is a shit load lighter than a vt aswell
The weight difference between a VT and a VN will play a large part in a faster time. One of the main advantages of the VT is the IRS, which isnt a great system anyway. Id love to drop a gen 3 into a VN, have to have the T56 behind it though, and a 3.9 diff. The engine and box your getting is better than a VT one as well. the manifolds on the early gen 3s isnt the best, the better ones are on the later ones. Do it, do it do it, cant wait to see the results
I agree. It'll go hard and you will be an individual with a unique car. Not just some plain random vt ss. It will cost you but if you have the cash then who cares?............Do it!!!!!!
i say do it, go on you know you want to
ive seen it done with a vk wagon and that thing went like a cut cat. imagin what it would go like in a vn............. with forced inducton![]()
Stato on the inside, berlina on the out side,5ltr under the bonnet, stockies all round...........that thing has to be a sleeper

Forced induction, a nice big single turbo bolted onto the side, im thinkin maybe 500+rwkw, sounds like a bit of fun to me
Do it do it do it do it
yes i agree
i wanna see it boosting down the road under full throttle with the wheels spining................mmmmmmmmm (starts to drool)

Fark now were talkin!!!! 9k will get u a cooled vortech kit or turbo kit drive in drive out with 440kw at the fly...........now that will fly..........or sealed vorteh kit for 5k 400kw at the fly. I know what i would do.....
Guys,
Just about to put a gen3 LS1 with T56 6 speed and computer into a VG (VN) ute.....just waiting for the loom before I start.![]()
No plans yet on mods except for mafless tune to get about 280fwkw, but seeing the current 250,000K 5L and T5 still manage to easily spin the wheels in 1st and 2nd (tare is 1200kg, for a VT its about 1600kg I think, and then they get heavier), the mafless tune should do for now.

Current costs so far (uncluding the ute and a full suspension nolathaning) about $13K, and probably about $2-3K more for the tune/tyres/bits.
Once I start I'll start posting.
The biggest challenges, given the availability of kits, in order seem to be:
- Loom and integration
- Clutch pedal and hydraulics
- Fuel pump stuff.
Other than that just elbow grease and patience (I'm going to do it myself as much as possible).
Catchyas!
