Default VN Over heated plus more

    Hey all
ok i took my vn on a nice long drive today probly one of the biggest since i've had it and since im still on my l's anyways i have a slight water leak coming from one of the heater hoses what is a pain , now normally i get about a week and a half before i have to full up water now on the way home i notice my engine light had come on now stight out i thort that couldn't be good but i keept going since i was out in the middle of no where anyways it went away for a good 5 mins or so then it came back mind you i was driving over 100 so when it came back i told me old man that it was on and we pulled over when i was turning into a turning lane the car stalled and you could see smoke coming out of the bonnet

when we stoped you could see the water in the radiator tank just coming out of the motor really fast anyways we left it for about ten mins found some water and came back, before i went to put the water in i tryed to start it up it started but i had to pump it a bit but when it was running you could here a really loud noise coming from under the rocket cover and after we put the water in and closed the cap the water container for the radiator felt like somthing was punching it from the inside now i was woundering if any 1 knew what that noise was it went away and we got home alright but i went to get tea b4 when i went down the drive way and put it into drive it stalled again

another problem when the motor is running there sounds like there is a lot of rattling coming from under it any ideas what it is and a way to fix it and 1 more problem what really cause the first problem is my temp gage dosn't work it hasn't worked since i changed the thermostat any ideas

    Thanks Heaps Matt

the thermostat wont work if theres no water in the engine.also check if the wires are pluged in to the temp sender units at the front of the manifold
the thumping is caused by air trapped in the engine and the water near the air is boiling .
also check your oil or change it that usually helps with internal noises
Stato on the inside, berlina on the out side,5ltr under the bonnet, stockies all round...........that thing has to be a sleeper

I would say the engine has been damaged. The engine will probably blow smoke but should be serviceable. When my previous car overheated it started to blow smoke and use oil and got a sticking valve when cold but it was still running when I put it off the road 6 months later. I just had to make sure I kept an eye on the oil level.

EDIT: youve posted this twice. I wondered why my previous comments didnt come up.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!

ok i'll check the temp sender tomorrow when i get home from work
i changed the oil when i noticed all the noise coming from the frount of the car i even used a thicker oil didn't make any difference

Thats why when I got my VN and the temp guage didnt work I fixed it ASAP as I dont want this car to do the same thing.
man i hope the motor isn't rooted i'll check out if it blowing smoke or anything tomorrow

if you have engine light, means fault code has been stored. I would check this & see what it says. Also, flush radiator/cooling system, new thermostat & gasket. See if that helps. check all hoses & clamps. Also water pump. If series 1 check timing chain cover.... this is a sneaky leak that creeps up on ya & is sometimes hard to find

how much heaver oil did you use??
if its to heavy the oil pump wont pick it up and will starve the engine of oil then it may go bang for good.
its only good to put a heaver oil in a cat thats done a million miles and that has all of its internals worn (taxi)
but if its not to much heaver it should be ok say 15w40 or 20w50
