wats crackin, i have a '88 vn which i decided to change the fuel pump on because it would randomly cut out and now the car seems to run rough and eventualy die. so i took out the fuel tank and cleaned it out, and still have the same problem. except i started the car without noticing i had the fuel pump fuse out and it ran better then it did with the fuse in. there is no power going to the relay without the fuse in nor to the fuel pump but some how the car still runs fine? any help will be great
cheers
Yep its bypassed by the oil switch when it gets up to pressure...

the oil pressure switch bypasses the fuel pump relay but not the fuse. without the fuse in place there shouldn't be any voltage at either the ful pump relay or the oil pressure switch. something wrong with your wiring somewhere there

i fixed it now, got a new fuel pump. thanks for the help. i still got no idea how the fuel pump could run the car when the only thing connected to the fuel pump is the hose, no connectors
VL commodores have a low pressure pump on the tank and a high pressure pump for the fuel rail. Perhaps VNs are the same and one pump was enough.
i also noticed when i removed my fuel pump relay while the car was on it didnt stall... AT ALL!!!! weird.. oh well
Generaly, only the V8 models have 2 fuel pumps, one in the tank and then one outside the tank in the standard location, same as the V6 models. when you remove the power to the fuel pumps the engine will continue to run due to the residual fuel pressure in your fuel lines, especially as at idle it doesn't use a lot of fuel but the engine will die once the fuel pressure drops
