Hey guys. I'm having alittle trouble at the moment with my VP. I recently purchased a geniune cold air induction system from Holden, but it didn't come with a instruction manual. As a result I'm not sure how exactly to fit the system. I am aware that I have to cut a larger hole in the air box and whats invovled in that.
What I am having trouble with is connecting the bigger piece to the car itself. From what I've seen, I know I need to screw it in, but I'm not sure where and how, and I think I might have to take the original fan cover off I think. Any information would be greatly appreciated guys. Thanks - Anth
OK u will have to cut ur hole bigger on the air box...
U will need to drill sum holes for the cold air intake mouth to bolt onto the fan shroud....put a bit of metal under the plastic wen u drill the holes so u dont drill into the top of the radiator.
Then u will most likely have to pour sum boiling water ova the CAI to make it soft then slam the bonnet on it to mold it into place...
Hope this can help ya
Thanks for that. But sounds like abit of work. I'm now thinking that it may not even work properly if it is not meant to fit into place that easily. Has anybody who has done this before verify if it is worth the trouble. Regards Anth.
it's one of those things, somecars it fit's onto firts time no hassle, others need a little flufing around, the cars getting older, plastics slowly warp over time etc, it probably would've gone straigth on if the car was brand spankers, give it a go, just be care full around the radiator

Yeah, thanks alot for that. Just hope its worth the trouble. I'm just alittle worried also about the little bit of rubber under the bonnet which I think might stop air from entering the CAI system? Will it affect it or not?
i Always fort that it would affect the amount of air that flows thru but wen ur drivin at 60km+ there is a bit of force behind it so it forces it past the rubber....
It shouldnt affect it in anyway but if u want to feel safe go cut a chunk out from infront of the CAI n that will make sure all air is makin it into the CAI
Good idea to cut the rubber, but I thought that rubber was there to stop water from entering engine bay when it rains, etc? Also wouldnt that mean that water could enter the CAI system and sog the hell out of the air filter, not to mention stuff my engine. Boy I wish someone told me that CAI system doesn't fit the VP before I bought one - live and learn eh!!
no need to cut it, you can just take the whole rubber piece off

It's been done a thousand and one times before on VN/VP's it basically fits with only some minor adjustments. Drilling the holes takes what 40 seconds, you can even buy the "proper" screws from holden, cutting the air box takes a little bit of time but you've already done that, just drill the screws in, use a heat gun or something similiar to open up the mouth a bit more if you want, and heat up the top of it then slam your bonnet and hold it for maybe 10 seconds and you'l never have to think about it again.
Do a search next time mate, there is a million and one threads on this topic. And if you need instructions then I don't think you belong near a car.
It's not so much that I need instructions, all I wanted to know was if it was possible for the CAI to work effectively on a VP for which it was never designed for. I didn't want to chop and cut the VP only to find that it wasn't worth it. As for being near cars, I love them just as any of you do, so I wouldn't have it any other way but to be with my VP. As for everyone else thanks for all your help.
That's a bit cruel we all have to star somewhere, Before i got my VP i never seen a ECU fuel injection injectors central locking immobiliser power steering 4 disc brakes etc... And in 12 months i have learnt a hell of a lot.
We all start somewhere but with help and good ears and eyes we learn.

I'm not a huge fan of the cold air intakes, myself. I just cut a chunk out of the air-box trunk, and made the hole a bit wider.![]()

I pulled the rubber seals under the bonnet out. Had no hassle fitting the unit. 1 hour job was done from go to whoa. Easy. Gains are good too.

I have noticed better overtaking power and midrange is nice and it pulls harder from 2700rpm then ever before.

Cogez just fitted one of these to his VP Calais, it fits quite nicely after a little time and effort.
I'll be fitting one to my VN soon enough . . . now that I know the tricks![]()
Yeah i just took that rubber thing off all together. And the little plastic tabs that hold the rubber strip to the bonnet, If you be careful you can take them out and use them to stick you CAI down. Thats why i did and it works a treat.
Australia. Love it or leave it
yeah i did this a while back (if you search, you can probably find my n00b posts asking how)
now thinking about cutting the top of the CAI scoop back a bit, to open the mouth (i've tried heat gun melting it, and it always seems to go back to the same shape)
i think i remember seeing a CAI cut back this way in an attachment. anyone done this? worthwhile?
You have to hold it in shape untill it cools, Once I had stretched mine enough with socket extension bars I used a block of wood to ram in there and left that in untill it cooled then moved to the next section, you can get it huuuge doing this
done, thanks. i was shutting the bonnet too soon, and i think it was just going back to it's old shape.
this is going to sound like a total n00b question, but i've got a sv6 VP. and wanting to take the bellmouth off, but i'm unsure if the VP has one.
without taking the throttle body off, can anyone tell me?
The VP will have one but have a think about what you are trying to achive and where you want the air to go before you just go and rip it out. I think modifying it will be better for power than removal
