Help needed, suspect oil pump.

I think my oil pump is on the way out. I was wondering how much oil other VNs get in the top end. I just checked mine under the filler cap and I cant see any oil moving around in there. I checked a new Nissan Pulsar to compare and I cant even take the cap all the way off without it spewing oil out at me. Can someone check theirs for me and tell me how much oil is in there. Any help greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I should also add that the reason I suspect the pump is because I started it and the oil light went out for about 10secs and come back on when I first started it, but now it isnt coming on.

get an oil pressure gauge, the switch mite be a problem

An oil pressure guage would probably cost more than an oil pump from the wreckers. And I have changed the switch and the plug already today thinking that it would be the problem. But the light still come on.
