    Default Tyre Scrubbing

    Hey all ....

I have had a major problem when driving my VN with tyre scrubbing under the wheel arches ....

Currently it has Chopped springs (going to change to kings superlows)
and it has ... Genuine drag ways from a Holden Kingswood with these dimentions. ....... 215/65 R14 95H

Would they be causing the rubber/tyre to rub against the body or would it be much more?

The following attachments have been added for you to see where its scrubbing ....

    Cheers

    Adam

I can't really make out the pictures lol, But im guessing the back is scrubbing. he tyre specs seem fine, it's only the driver side that scrubs right? Im guessing you havn't installed a adjustable panahrd rod when you lowered the car either? Because if you've lowered her a fair bit you WILL need a adj panhard rod to stop scrubbing.

id be going with mack on that one and also the fact that you have chopped springs wouldnt be helping as its looks like its rubbing on the top of the wheel well so it might be a little to low, does it do it all the time or only with passengers?

Its the FRONT end thats chopped.
The FRONT end that has the dragways.
    And
    The FRONT end that scrubs.

It scrubs when turning either left or right .... and its on both sides equally as bad. I will go out and get some new pictures for you all.

    Cheers

Photos have been taken. Having a look at HakHawk's post and assuming he means the front end

The First picture is how it sits on the drivers side
The Second picture is where its scrubbing on the drivers side with the wheel touching
The last picture is on its side but shows the area affected by the scrubbing

Could all this be braught along by suspension settings ?? (castor/camber)

Obviously it wouldn't be solved with higher springs due to it would just scrub lower. What would be a solution to this?

Driving around normally turning random corners it scrubs EVERY time when close to full lock. KILLA_CALAIS knows all too well as the only driver of the car so far has been him

    Cheers

one easy solution would be to go to a smaller profile tire... i had the same problem on my vn with 215 60 15. when i went to a 225 50 16 problem went away

yeh, i did mean front, all i can think of is chnge the springs, get a wheel alignment, and maybe drop to a 205 wide tyre.

I do not think it is actually the width ... i think its just the overall rolling diametre that is causing the problem but to me it seems like the wheel is further backwards than my mums VN .... i could just be seeing things though

How much roughly would a wheel alignment cost ?

That clearly shouldn't do that, I have 225's rear and 205's front. You can just bout fit 245 on the car.

If it is only scrubbing at full lock or close to it, the car is too low, and your wheels are touching the guard as you turn. Castor or Camber wont change this, the fact is the car is too low. I had the same drama with my VL when I dropped it too low with 17x8's. You could try rolling the guards

the old kingswood rims have a different offset and give the car a differnt turning circle thats why they scrub at the front
the rims sit out further because they have deeper dishes so they will scrub because the outer edge of the wheel becomes closer to the pannel than it normally would
Stato on the inside, berlina on the out side,5ltr under the bonnet, stockies all round...........that thing has to be a sleeper

    Cheers for that xcop5l ...

I have 2 stockies that i could put on the car and tommorrow i will change the wheels over

Will let you all know how it is .... my transmission guy rekons its been in an accident before .... i have spoken to the 2 last owners (father and son) and they both said no-one has crashed it and yes. The son is one of my mates so yeah. I doubt it would be that as there is no evidence of a crash at all under the body and what not so it must just be the rims on the front ...

    Cheers

The overall rolling diameter is fine. It varies only 2mm from stock. Thats the OVERALL rolling diamater. Stock has 185/75/R14's.

That is the perfect profile for your width tyre.

It is a combination of the wheel offset and the chopped springs.
