    Default auto transmission

this might not make sense but anyway.

when im driving i change back the gears coming upto intersections to save on the brakes. but i would be in the white [D] and change back to second without any acceleration and nothing happens. it doesnt rev up and slow me down it just stays in third gear.

    i hope that makes sense.
but it gives me the shits cause i do it in my dads xtrail and it drops back and slows it down mine just does nothing

Dunno about your prob, but brakes are heaps cheaper to replace than an auto. They sort of arent really designed to be used like that.....thats why they call it an auto........

Someone once said to me that brakes are much easier replaced than transmissions! I would only use engine braking on a long or steep descent, or when towing.

Having said that, I know that if I do that on my car, it does drop back to second and slow down. Does it stay in second if you leave it there while accelerating?

Edit - Hillerus beat me to it!

I'm not too sure then, but it might be worth getting the transmission serviced if you haven't had it done for a while and mentioning the problem to them.

Other than that I can't be much help i'm afraid as the Commodore is my first auto car.
