G'day,
I was walking around the wreckers and I found 2 VN Commodore S, and I reconise these brakes which is shown as V8 brakes assembly, I might be mucking around wasting my time, Is it worth for me to take them off and replace my V6 brakes to V8 ones?
If I go ahead with that, what would I need, I'm aware about the callipers & discs etc but how about the booster?
Cheers
AP
The size difference in the booster is minimal. Its not worth changing imo and as far as I know, the rear brakes are the same. Only the fronts are different?
I beleive the V8 model has a slightly larger rotor (disc) and the calipers are the finned design for better cooling but funnily enough use the same pads from memory so pad size doesn't increase. the booster difference in neglible however it's worth fitting the larger 1" master cylinder (V6 has 15/16"). Holdens have always been know for being under braked and they didn't really fix this fault untill the VT series with the larger rotors and twin spot calipers. this seems to be popular upgrade and i've heard some good results. another option would be to find a set of brakes of the SV5000i model which i believe had the corvette brakes with 330mm rotors and 4 spot calipers. if you can get the V8 setup cheap it can''t hurt to upgrade but make sure you fit a good set of pads also

The VN V6 without the FE2 suspension uses a 270mm rotor where as the VN V6 with FE2 & V8's use a 290mm rotor (Part number DBA017 if your interseted)but same 22mm same thichness. As mentioned Calipers use the same pad. Also I agree with getting a 1" master cylinder as well. Depending on how much effort you have to make to get the items, the effort might not be worth the result.
A reconditioned pair of calipers would cost about $100

The V8 brakes are a tad better than the V6, but don't spend much on them. Recently I pulled three hard stops in a row from 100km/h and they held up ok, fade was acceptable but I suspect a fourth stop wouldn't have gone so well. I can't wait till summer when I'll have the time to fit a VT conversion.

Pads just about make all the diff. I had a set of cheap sprint auto pads and they were real bad. Spent a bit more on the pads ($62.00 a pair) from memory and the brakes are now very good compared to what I had.
PS I have a vn v6 and vn v8 and the v8 wins no ifs or buts in the brake department (same type of pads)
