Want to change the sound of my VN, if anything i want it sounding like a rumbling V8, i had a mate who made his VL soundlike a V8, no shit, iw as off the hook, so if ic ould to that, i would be so happy, what are my options? I also want to spend as little money as possible.

Australia. Love it or leave it
never late in a 3 0 .. uhhh ... intercooled turbo
yes i drive an mx6 turbo ... its probably quicker than yours.
How about...
I want my VN V6 to sound like my mates Skyline GTR...
What can i do for under 50 cents to make my car sound like a GTR.
with the bov noise too.
and maybe some backfiring
but spend no more than 50 cents
Maybe thats a tad harsh, but in reality a V6 is not a V8... just enjoy the sound of your 6 humming away at the lights, because that V8 burble means only 1 thing.
$$$ at the next servo.
lol very much agree with the posts above.
A V6 CANT sound like a V8. Its that simple. Greenfoam can explain it, its something to do with the way the V8 fires or something... I forget.
If you think an RB30e sounded like a V8 you have very untuned ears when it comes to the sound of a car.
Holy shit dude, you have 3,747 posts since march THIS YEAR!
do you live on here or something? Thats insane!
My other forum i have 3,900 posts in 3 years... woah.
Ok, none of you are funny.
So either a redback catback with no resonater or just cut the resonater out.
When idling a long, the VL i heard with an RB30 motor in it, did sound like a V8, i heard what i heard, i do not care to debate about it.
you dont no what a v8 sounds like then do you
I reckon the six sounds good on its own
1991_Vn2nV wow you have posted a fair bit, good stuff. I've been here since Dec 2003, and ye keep it up.
The six has a great sound. very smooth... similar to a V12, just half... haha.
a V8 always sounds off to me... like something doesnt quite fit..
Ya'll leave my post whorin alone lolI work 34 hours a week at a servo at nights and afternoon shifts, so I come on here before and after I sleep for work...
Plus im a full time uni student and when im in a boring lecture such as Law or some of my Psych lectures, I waste time on here too.. JC rocks![]()
this probbly sounds silly but a "aged" sports exhust will do the trick, look for one at the wreckers with 1 muffler and it should pop, then add a CHEAP pod filter and gives u some of the roar noise it wont sound exactly like one but yeah
worn exhusts actually give a nice sound sometimes
i drive a v6 and it has a 2.5 inch exhaust. and it sounds like crap. this is my second v6 with a 2.5 inch exhaust. being a manual it does sound a bit better. but still. nothing compares to the nice smooth sound of a v8. i have never heard a v6 that sounds like a v8 yet. i don't even think it is possible. i am know after this post i will be one of the most least popular people on this forum. but it is right.
i have heard some v6's with a half quiet exhaust and i thought they sounded alright..
put a v8 into your car and keep the v6 badges on it, problem solved!
anythings possible if you try hard enough bognog
i found most of my bodykit there, just keep looking, go to self serve wreckers tho because it'll be cheaper, $1 entry 2x per week and you'll find one in no time,
the other option you have is for $50 u can get one of your mufflers cut off and staight piped but it will still sound like a v6, unless you upgrade the cam/injectors/bore size you wont get that lumpy V8 sound
and as for everyone being stupid nice way to welcome someone to JC with sarcasm :P not very nice!
So pacemaker extractors and a stock cat back exhaust with the rear resinator should sound decent with a stage 3 cam and vt injectors?
Cheers

I found my exhaust sound has got better with age. Anyone no the reason this might happen?
Australia. Love it or leave it
muffler and resinator are gutted maybe .... maybe cat is gone aswell ....
or maybe you might have a hole near the middle of the car ...
i got a brand new 2.5 inch exhaust on my old vn and the bloke who did it said it would get deeper with age.
Well my catback is only 8months old, so it doesnt have holes or anythin, its just got deeper over the first 3months.
Australia. Love it or leave it

It's not possiblebut it may be possible to insert a gurgle. The V8 works like this
RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT-LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT <repeat
GGGG-CCCC-CCCC-GGGG-GGGG-CCCC-CCCC-GGGG <repeat
So you get the cylinders in pairs
G=gurgle (caused by two cylinders firing down the same collector pipe at almost the same time and getting congested)
C=crisp
So you get 50% of the time a gurgle and 50% of the time a crisp firing and that's what makes a V8 growl
The V6 is as follows
RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT-LEFT
CCCC-CCCC-CCCC-CCCC-CCCC-CCCC
=Sounds like a boat ie. put put put put, or if you get enough revs into it REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE a Ferrari or Formula one
Now you can cross the pipes from one bank to another to change the sound
But you can't do it the same as the V8 with a V6 because you run out of pipes.
RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT-RIGHT-LEFT-RIGHT
GGGG-CCCC-GGGG-GGGG-CCCC-GGGG
Like this you get two gurgles per cycle but the gap between them is short and you also have 4 pipes in one collector and 2 in the other:P haha.
I'm only guessing what that would sound like but it should be somewhat close to a V8 since the V6 is firing less cyliners per rev than a V8 so the shorter gap between them might help here. Then again it may still sound like a V6 but that's the best I can come up at this time. You could buy a 304 for the price of building custom headers to _maybe_ sound like one, you will also loose power for each gurgle you stick in as it's one of the great problems with the common V8's
