Default cutting a muffler off, which one to cut???

hey guys, to be honost im not intrested in anyone saying "dont do it" so dont read on if you intend to

im kinda poor and i want my car to be louder, my mate just had it done to his VR clubby and its the best sounding thing ever... but that is a stroked 304, for $50 they'll cut one of my mufflers off and straight pipe it, my question to you is, what muffler to get cut off

front (closest to the front of the car)
rear (closest to the rear of the car)

which one would give me the best sound/less drone, (ive heard full systems dront, which is why i say dont tell me what you think unless you've done it and had a bad experiance)

anyway all "sports exhusts" are is 1 muffler system with 2.5" piping

my front muffler is currently rubbing on my sway bar, and despite my best efforts to reposition it i cant make it stay..

Get your rear one removed, most prob a resonator anyway. Why not get your front one repositioned at the same time?

Take the rear resonator off, it'll be louder but still legal, might drone a bit, but hey ya get what you pay for.

REAR resonator, meaning the resonator positioned at the REAR of the vehicle, behind the muffler. Means ya only have to make one cut as well, just hack off the resonator and weld on a piece of pipe. A zorst shop shouldn't charge much at all for that, or if you're handy with a gas axe you could do it all yaself.

heh, i think they'd laugh at how i attached my tip...

i had it jammed on, right untill i hit a bump and it felt off *hears a TING DING DIGN DING* and found it the next morning

now its poprivited on :P i wonder if they could make it 2.25" to 2.5" where the muffler used to be because the tip i have is 2.5" and i used a hammer to make it fit, but i have a spare tip thats pretty much the same...

gas axe?? i used a angle grinder to hack up this exhust ive got at my house i dont have a welder tho

how much would a exhust shop charge??? pipings not too expensive like $16 per meter and the cost to weld it on

Replace the main muffler with a straight through muffler and leave the resonator on , then you'll be talking

Dunno how much they'd charge, you'd have to ask around, I know one fella got it done for $50, same as what you said in your first post.

hmm, I dunno, that's what my VN has and it's ok, not particularly loud though. The reason I recomend he remove the resonator is because it will get a fair bit louder, sound tougher and it's cheaper than doing the main muffler. Sure it'll drone a bit with no ressie, but like I said, get what you pay for.

But with no main muffler if will sound so loud someone will think your sitting on your lawn mower and that's a big fat unroadworthy sticker for you. Far better to flog a loud car with a dead silent one if you ask me . Be the air man, don't think about removing mufflers think about adding one (on the other side )

This may sound odd, but this i have tried on a few cars over the years with some nice sounding results.

Get them to replace your resonator with your muffler. So it's straight through piping till the back where your resonator used to be and muffler now is.

Result is fairly sedate at low revs, but a nice bark when you get up it.

I realise it might sound a bit strange of an idea, but it worked for me.

cheers man might try that, foam, im looking for a quick fix, on my shopping list is a dual 2.5" or 3" from the headers back with 1 muffler and 1 cat per pipe, but untill then (when i have money) i want it jsut a bit louder and as we've established my cars not the quickest and mainly a cruizer for now

Get the rear 1 removed for about 40 and get a lukey straight thru muff for your front one for about 140. Make it sound heaps better.

It most definatly *will not* be legal. Been there, found out the hard way about 10 years ago. Unless you drive like a dick, it shouldn't attract too much attention from the police though.

On the other hand, you could wait till you have a bit of $$$ and buy a system that will give a great note and also give a few more RWKW.

You serious? Should be legal, the resonator doesn't add much by way of muffling really. Removing the centre muffler is a different matter, that'll probably put it over 90dB. As for saving up, that would be my approach also, but he's already stated that he wants a cheap and immediate solution.

I have no rear resonator. I passed a decibal test with my exhaust (2.5 inch cat back exhaust with the resonator removed) when I went to Regency Park (Vehicle Inspection Centre).
