    Default VN vs SSS pulsar

hey, my mate at tafe just WONT shut up about how fast his 2.0L SR20DE (non turbo) is, its a 92 pulsar with extractors/full exhust system and a pod filter also a 5 speed manual... 105kw @ fly stock and 170nm of torque (rofl), he keeps throwing figures round like 150rwkw.. anway ive been in it and its NOT that quick,

anyway i want to shut him up, anyone think my calais could whoop him??

i figure mines pushing anywhere from 100-115rwkw and launches pretty good, timed a 0-100 and it was round 7.0-7.3 seconds using foams chip

i figure if hes lucky hes pushing 70rwkw after mods?? his car weighs 1150kg + 2 amps + subwoofer, as there is no flow to move really he woulnt benefit much from extractors on a NA, im thinking the ammount of tourqe he has will cause him to be slow

mines = 1350kg + 2 amps + sub (some minor weight reduction) if i remove the spare tyre thats what another -20kg???

just looking for some idea's as he just wont shutup and its really pissing me off, so if i can beat him to the speed limit (80km/h) in my "stock family sedan" then ill laugh my ass off at him :P

Sounds like you don't need to beat him in a race, just out BS him!! If it was me, i'd just start claiming ridiculous power and 0-100 figures for my car. Are the mods you mentioned the only ones he's done to increase the power?

I wouldnt be overly sure that you will beat him man. It wouldnt be at all quick, but it might give yours a run for its money. Calais' are heavier than a normal VN, and as much as Foams chip would help, I dont know if it will gain more than a second than stock.

Well I used to own an NX coupe which has the same engine(SR20)with cat back and pod and mine would be neck and neck with a stock VN.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!

If both cars were standard they would be just about lineball up to 100 ie 7.8 - 8.3 seconds. With the same mods the Commodore would have the greater gain. If your car is around 7.0 seconds to 100 you should easily beat him as his mods would not knock a second off his time.
Asking the question though indicates you yourself have doubts about being able to beat him.

I'm not so sure a calais can get to 100 in 7 second myself! but yeah, go for a drive to backroad and find out or better yet get a gtech into each of them on the same bit of road and you will know. My VN V6 use to do 7 flat to 60 mph everytime so that's something to aim for, no use thinking your cars fast unless you've tested it in some way.

I also think it's pointless to do or even think about doing mods to a car unless you have either a drag strip in your backyard or a g-tech to see what's going on, it should be the first thing anyone buys

foam, i said between 7.0-7.3 as i havnt had a gtech at my disposal to test which means i had to use a stop watch, so my times could even be 1 second out... like i said my cars not quick(yet), but its definatly not slow

true that, ive got other mods but maily help when the engines hotter,

his podfilter is in a BAD position, it has no direct airflow and is subject to engine heat,

yes i do have doutbs, im not confident id win, as i dont think my cars the fastest thing on the plannet, s0sage lol in the mx6?, on one condition.... i can race you in my brothers GTO :P

quarterJR predicted id win to 100km/h by 0.5 of a second
it also predicted he'd win the 1/4mile by 0.3 seconds, im intrested to see how it pans out, i really need luke to come over and take my car for a Gtech run to get some ACCURATE readings on 0-60mph times...

despite what most people think, my calais isnt slow the engines in good condition and compression is even and in good running order, transmission has been serviced regularly and dosnt shutter and shifts nicely,

just burn off one of foams oldschool chips, its a fuel guzzler but ive found its the fastest ive used so far.. well see how it goes

yeah ill do it tommorrow if we can get a good set of lights in a 80 zone, if i loose ill just have to putup with his shit, then make my car faster and try again :P

also one last thing, where does all the calais weight come from?? i dont get it 60kg??, cruize control? spare mag insted of stocky, electric boot motor????the wheels??? hrmmm also this pulsar has 17" rims and is lowered

The Calais if it's anything like my SLE will have extra sound deadner, heavier carpets, extra bits of sound deadning rubbers all over the joint. Motors for the power windows, heavier seats

    Hmmm...
    Itd be tough to call.
My money would be on not the car, but the better driver.
The pulsar sss is not fast, but its decent for its purpose and will keep up with non turbo silvias and the like.
It would come down to the person quickest on the shift and best on launch.

I doubt your Calais is 1350, when my SS is 1400. Plus your forgetting things like the weight of the kit one your car.

    When and where?

To paradox, you would get kicked bud. Instead of listening to hsi bullshit and getting sucked in, just ignore whatever he says about his car, when he realises you dont give a shit, the shit talk will stop.

I raced a SSS in my old VN once. Not sure whether he had auto or manual or not. Mine was a VN Spac manual, 200,000kms, average condition (still went alright)

A slipped the clutch poorly and got a shit launch, just spun the wheels. Once i got going, i caught him pretty well in 1st gear, and in 2nd i caught up even more. If we had gone past the speed limit (80km/h) then i would've caught him for sure by say 110km/h.

Not sure how the auto goes (i've only driven auto VN/VP for about a week) but i know that driven correctly the manual VN/VP would quite comfortably beat the SSS

This is assuming of course that the SSS didn't also have a shit run, and that the SSS i raced was in decent condition

The SSS is a funny piece of work
Ugly to the max, but SR20DE which is actually a decent donk for a 4 banger.
Some models also had a viscious LSD, which can make them a bit quicker off the line.
If its a V8 VN then no competition, but for a close to stock V6 its going to be tight.
But rest assured in the fact that no matter how fast his car is, theres still no room to shag in the back seat.. crappy small jap pieces of sh*t

also forgot to mention he has a LSD
exiting tafe today, nice set of lights, 3 lanes ,

1st lane, my mates nissan micra, 800kg 60kw @ wheels
    2nd lane SSS pulsar
    3rd lane me

lights changed the micra botched the take off, stalled it to 2000rpm for the take off, pulled ahead after a second and stayed there, won by 1.5 car lengths on a stock tune (forgot to fit foams tune)

woulda been better if i hadnt have wheel spun(crappy bald tyres)

next set of lights pulled up next to a honda prelude with VTEC and more gauges than a airoplane, fully modified, ended up 0.5 carlengths behind him so not a bad conclusion, with a bit of work she'll be quicker
