Hey guys I got given a VN to take parts off that i need for my VN. It has a full metal jacket and has the key for ignition and all. Is it possible to swap it over to my vn? I dont know anything about these things and have no idea how they work or anything. I just heard they are good and now i can get one for free i just need to know how it works and how i can fit it.
Another thing i am going to get is an alarm and immoboliser. Are JB highfi alarms and immobolisers any good. Its the only place i can think of that sell them. What brand and so on are the best. What price am i looking at. any other places sell them? cheers for any help.

yeah. swap the lot over. my car has a metal jacket. i have never looked at taking it off. i am sure it would take ages to unscrew it all.. ya might aswell swap all the locks over. it isn't much trouble..
different shops will specialise in different brands of alarms. i really like audiotech in belconnen, i have had a few things done there, definitely better quality work than the install i had done on my mums car at jb-hifi in belco (although the the installer that did the work on mums car is now no longer working there)
i got my alarm off ebay, 2 way pager alarm and remote start, plus central locking, the alrm was about 70 bucks and the central lockking about 17 not including postage and handling. i got it installed by the guys at jb hi fi install and it cost me more that the alarm and the llocking kit combinded X 2
k thanks for your help about alarms. I will have to look round. Anyways about the metal jacket on the other VN i got, I cant seem to find a way to get it off for the swap over. Here is a pic of what it looks like. Can anyone plz give me some advice on how to get it off so i can put it on my car. Or where can i buy i new one from. How much are they new? I would like to somehow change this one over because its free. I also need the whole ignition barrel and everything. Im doing a full lock change over. cheers.

it might be easier in the long run to change the hole steering colum. i take it you are using the ingnition barrel from the car with the metal jacket.. i think it is only a few bolts to unbolt the steering colum, unplug the wires and pull the colum out. i am pretty sure that is how it is done.. then do the same on your car then put the metal jacket one in yours..
hang on.. ya might have to unbolt the bit that goes onto your steering rack. i can't remember if the colums are two piece or not. i have a feeling they are.. just sometimes they get pretty tight..
i hope this helps ya
Sorry for digging an old thread up, but does anyone know where to purchase a Full Metal Jacket from?
Ebay, they pop up on occasions.
I remember reading a "how to" article on them jiggers years ago. They should be an absolute bastard to get off because the fixing bolts were designed for the head to shear off when the correct torque was reached. Changing the whole column is the way to go if it's the right lock in there....

Cars insured, I rather them not take off with my ss at all! :-)
RAA/RACV whatever they're called at your place maybe? that's where mine came from originally..

Probably not what you're after. But might help deter anyone who wants your car.

Had one of these on my ss & the so & so's that tried to steal it had no probs getting it off. Thanks to the alarm I still have the beast. Your call but dont know if i'd waste my time looking for 1. MAke sure you have a good alarm with immobiliser etc & you'll be set.
