hey guys, my brakes on my vn have just recently started pulsating, and my pads are just about dead (i think they still standards):P i checked my discs and they are obviously worn out and there is even a little bit of scoring, so that means my pads are rooted aswell, i was wondering about a few options,
A) convert vn brakes to vt brake system, just wanna no how much it will cost and whether it is worth doing? do you have to change master cylinder?
B) go out and buy myself some big dba slotted and cross drilled rotors get some decent pads and keep standard vn master cylinder which are shit. wondering how much that would cost and if anyone else has gone this way.
C) third option would b the best susgestion u guys can come up with.
i have a little bit of money so i dont wanna go the cheap ass way, im just sick of putting my foot through the floor just t oapply some brake pressure.
any help would be great, cheers.
p.s would it also be smart to look into better calipers or not?
first of all dont get cross drilled as the rotors crack.
what kind of driving do you do?
rally down back streets
granny driving not going over 50kph
the occasional outburst of reckless driving
ect ect

little bursts haha but all legal. umm i sorta need better brakescuz of the idiots in front of me that leave it till the last minute to put the brakes on at a red light. had alot of near misses. i havent heard of any discs cracking, only if they cheapo ones.
Go the VT upgrade. Pisses all over stock brakes. You need to run a 1" master cylinder though (a v8 one)
that a vn v8 one or a vt v8 one? how much they cost?
VN/VP should do it. Dunno what they cost, my SS has one standard so I didnt have to change much when I did the VT brake upgrade
does $550 sound to bad for conversion kit,
2 x PBR twin piston front calipers
2 x UPC#040, 296mm x 28mm vented rotors
2 x UPC#1344, Police spec brake pads
2 x Custom made ADR 7/00 braided brake hoses
2 x Holden conversion hubs made from 4140 steel complete with bearings, seals & studs
all i need to do then is get a master cylinder...
Seems to be a pretty good price. Can you do the work yourself though?
yea i can do the work easy. umm how do i no whether my master cylinder is 1" or not, i went and took a foto of it, i was reading another thread about vt brake upgrades and someone said to just look on the front of mine, i looked and saw PBR then a big 1, so wat sthat mean, i already got a inch? heres pic.
Yep, you have one already, the standard V6 ones are stamped 15/16
If ignorance is bliss why aren't there more happy people around ?
sweet looks like im getting a vt upgrade then. thanks fellas. has anyone done this conversion, any little tricks i should no about?
You gotta cut your backing plate to get the calipers on. Might also be a good time to change your brake fluid if it hasnt been done recently too
the dba cross drilled rotors crack from exseive heavy braking.
you have to put new fluid in any way because you have to change the calipers

i havent heard of them crackign before? backign plate should be easy, use plasma cutter. would it be possible to use 6 piston calipers?
Why? How fast are you planning on going?
i dunno i just think 6 piston ones would look wicked good with 19" wheels. my mate is getting these 8 piston freaks for his rex(rice burner) i dunno why, but that alot of stopping power. been talkign to the fella with conversion kit and he can do me cross drilled and slotted for same price. but i mite go with curved slots just to be safe, they look wicked as well.
Id just go with the twin pistons, braided lines all round and slotted rotors all round too. Im happy with the setup, wouldnt change it at all
well his quoted me 620 for everything thats on list except the calipers will be powder coated red and delivery. i havent quoted on rears, should put another 200-300 bucks on wont it. do u no the ratio of the pressure ffrom front to back? is it worth getting rears? thanks
May as well do the rears, its all done then....
900 bucks for all four. rears are cross drilled. do u think thats a good buy, he said the rear setup is normally 395 but will give them to me for 295. think its worth it? pbr calipers and stuff aswell.
Doesnt seem too bad. I payed around that price for all my stuff, but I got braided lines for the rears too. Mines got IRS so Ive got two lines either side also
yea im getting custom braided ones, gold discs, red calipers, high end pads, new hubs, bearings and seals. for 900, i think thats pretty good.
Thats pretty good. You'll be head butting the windscreen before you know it.....
nah dont do the rears for the sake of stoppgin power as, the only time you will really see the advantage of better brakes is when you stamp your foot down and when you do that all the weight of the car shifts the the front and somethign like 95% of the brakgin is done on the front, wouldnt bother about it. but maybe get the standard ones powdercoated at the same time
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
Just for future reference, the S packs have the V8/FE2 brakes and 1 inch cylinder straight out of the factory
