    do this first man

remove both rocker covers (6 bolts on eacH?)
then using the correct socket tool unbolt the rockers and remove the pushrods and check either clean them or replace them, i reccomend cleaning then put them back in good as new! im gonna change mine over soon when i can be bothered

i agree. i would only do that if i was replacing the lifters them selvs. the pushrods dont usually make noise, unless the lifter has colapsed

Try Wynns engine flush first. Add to warm engine - run for 15 mins and then replace oil.
Stopped my lifter noise. AND the 'replace crank' advised by 1 mechanic.
That job was going to cost $1,100 for starters + what ever else they could think of.

he also might discover something very distrubing like i did, so sometimes its worth while
my engine was down 1 cyclinder on compression and i ripped the rocker cover off to find a rocker 1mm from comming loose........ also you can check to see if any pushrods are bent, which is the MAIN reason for this exercise....

    non mechanical?

well see my understanding was that the camshaft lobes push the lifters up into the rockers to open the valves??? ohh wait Nahhhh they couldnt possibly be related to the valve train at all..what was i thinking..... pfft i must be a idiot!!!!

the problem may not be mechanical problem at all, some injectors especially the vn/vp ones are very loud, cant hurt to remove them and give them a squirt of carby cleaner then pulse them with a battery (9v or something siliar with sufficient current)

Cam lobes push on lifters which push on the pushrods. All they do is push, hence the name. If any are bent, you got more drama's then a noisy lifter

if you do the lifters you have to remove the rocker gear any way,
its best to check all the valve train components when you have a noise in the system. at could be any thing from a loose rocker cradle bolt to a colapsed spring and a valve tapping on top fo the piston to a buggered lifter

    What!!!?

The cam shaft pushes a lifter , which pushes a pushrod, which pushes the rocker. If the push rod is bent , yes it will make a noise, but just cleaning it wil not fix anything.
    PaRaDoX indeed, total absurdity

Sounds like PaRaDoX616 is the only one here who realises that the pushrods are hollow for purpose of pumping oil through them to the rockers and lubricating them. If the pushrods are dirty and/or blocked then the rockers won't be getting as much, if any oil that they require, which would lead to a ticking noise being made.

If they are partially blocked then the oil would need to get hotter and thinner to get past the blockage, which may be why you only hear it when the motor is cold in the morning.
