i cant fill my fuel tank?
i can only half fill it then it spurts it back out at me
anyone that can help it would be appreciated
Adam
is this all the time or just sometimes... u ever been able 2 fill it up.. wat happens when u try 2 put more in after its splashes out at u.. sure ur fuel guage isnt stuffed
My mate had exact same problem and it was his fuel gauge.
the sender unit 4 the gauge is near the fuel pump.. u gotta remove the fuel tank 2 get 2 it.. well its around there on the vr/vs ne way
since i got the car i havent filled it. i only just started driving it around and i didnt want to fill it and have the fuel go off
after it splashes out i can put another 5-7L in and it just keeps clicking. my fuel gauge says half full when i get back in
Adam
fuel gauge is stuffed man..
20 L Gerry in the boot + funnel and drive it until it stops. Reset trip counter after filling her up (if it still works) or take note of KMs.
The wagon has a 68l tank (sedan has 63)
Maybe the tank is cut in half LOL buT go with what 88greenvn said sounds good to me cheers !
How many litres are u getting in? When my wagon gets to half it takes around 38L and has travelled around 300kms.
Funny thing but the wagon has no boot!! but u know what I ment.
but isnt it bad for the fuel pump to run it dry?
Adam
Yeah, can kill the fuel pump. I'd say your gauge is knackered though.
Life's Grouse in Frankston South!
i was just thinking it cant be my gauge saying its not full when it is. cause when it clicks when filling it i can keep going but it just keeps clicking so i give up
Adam
Yeah it still could be full. When mine clicks i can ussaly do it another 4 or 5 times till no more will fit. Or maybe more. Then my tank is super full. the fuel gauge if off the chart haha. i can drive 120km or more before the needle is on full.
Australia. Love it or leave it
The car is designed to spit fuel back while there is still space left in the tank. the space is required for vapour expansion. In the user manual it says to only fill it to the first click unless you are driving at least 50 km straight after filling it, in which case it is OK to top it off. So with 10/12ltrs per 100km that means you should have about 5 to 6 litres of "dead space" as it were for the vapour control system to work properly.
Its easy to tell if the fuel guage is stuffed. If you were getting only half a tank of fuel in there you should only be able to drive about 300km@10lt/100km so if you are able to drive 400km after you fill it up the guage is stuffed.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
yeah i never fill my tank up to top unless in going for a long road trip up the coast. Then i put asmuch fuel in car as posible.
Australia. Love it or leave it
yea i would hav to agree definatlu a stuffed fuel gauge
well i might just take the chance of a stuffed fuel pump and run it dry.
Adam
when i worked at bob janes they had a xf ute and that "car" *smirkes* would always spit back petrol unless you put the pump in the exact right spot.
your car may have a similar thing.
We got rep back, yaaay!
My Vn does the same thing like the breather lines are clogged up. I just squeeze the fuel pump in a little to let it flow in slow and it fills all the way up for me.
