Do you Briefly tap the accelerator before you turn the key? Do you hold the accelerator pedal halfway while you turn the key? Is it really possible to just hop in, turn the key, and drive away..... just like it says in the book?
Open door,
climb in,
insert key and turn it,
select gear,
drive away.
If you can not do that to your car then you really need to get it fixed.
lol
All fuel injected cars should be able to be started by just turning the key. The computer regulates the air/fuel flow to allow starting. Only carby cars need the accelerator pumped/held down during starting.
EDIT:in fact pumping the accelerator while the engine is stopped does absolutely nothing. If you sit there and pump the accelerator a dozen times it will still start whereas on a carby car you will flood the engine and it wont start.
Im not a complete idiot, some parts are still on backorder!
well it will crank faster and easier with the throttle all the way open. do a test, take the coil lead off and crank it and see the rpm and then open the throttle and notice the rpm increase.
aerostart in a vacuum hose always works to start a car that is having trouble, brake booster is the best one to do it on, biggest hose and easy to get off and back on.
my web sitestuff on the XF throttle body conversion, calais interior and lots of other junk!
I don't touch the accelerator when I start it. Just turn the key, and yeah. She goes.

God must love stupid people, He made so many.
just like kowan said...if your car doesnt start straight away with easy, and you cant just put it in gear and go there is something wrong...
I was looking for just this confirmation that it is possible to turn the key and have the car start. Thank you,
Colin
i start mine without even getting into the car...
hehe yeah man, I read the title to this and I'm like say what?. 1/4 of a turn of the starter motor and I'm away in either the V6 or V8 very much almost instant
hmm sometimes i need to tap the accelerator, sometimes i dont. dunno whats wrong with it

I thing i have noticed with my Vn is how easily it starts, doesnt matter if its been sitting there for a few days it always starts first go, infact its even better than my dads VT because whenever i hop in and start it i dont hold the starter motor for long enough for it to fire up out of habit from my car![]()

I cant believe theres a thread on how to start a car... and if its possible to turn the key and start it...
What the hell... Am I missing something here?
Ermm... Get in and turn the key, thats all I've ever done. Although for piece of mind sometimes I put my foot on the break before I turn the key, once I had my foot on the accelerator instead haha oppss... Lucky I always put ma handbreak on
Anyways, You might wanna get that checked out I think? =/
But wait... There's more!!
But that's not all!!!

VT Calais II... The Italian Stallion
The night before I start my car, I sit down on my cushion, cross my legs, light the incense and hold my hands together. Then I meditate on it for around 3 hours during my astral flight. OMMMMM OMMMMM OMMMMMMMM. Then it starts pretty well instantly the next morning, it's incredible.
1st time every time for me. Turn the key for about 1second then drive off.
Australia. Love it or leave it
get in turn the key.. wow it starts.. let it sit for a few.. then drive off.. easy.
noone mentioned what i do so ill say it... i always turn to reds and wait till the fuel pump stops then start...easy... lol at greenfoams 2 ft detailed post on how his 253 starts...or dosnt.![]()
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
OK guys (and girls!), enough already!! I just wanted confirmation that it really is a normal thing for the car to start with no more than a turn of the key. Sometimes my car has the symptom described for a fuel pump relay or fuse not working, in that the car needs to crank for about 2 seconds, other times it just starts, and I was wondering what the norm was for y'all.....
(Off topic) Foamey you are a legend, what ever happened with your partitoned intake mainfold plenum thing? Does it go 15s yet?
i turn the key it goes *startermotor noise for 2-4 seconds* then vrooom shudder shudder shake =(
mine starts instantly like vn6pwr's... just a flick of the starter and ROAR!
Going where no late model stato/caprice has gone before.... GAME ON!!
mines better but
Al3x
Mines just faster cos its Red
i have a wolf 3d computer in my turbo pulsar. and when you push the throttle flat it cuts the injectors power. (only on cranking) so no pulse = no start. I don't know if delco's would have the same thing..
same as the guy above.. turn the key.. wait for fuel pump to stop, then bang starts first go.
