HI, I have obtained a much loved VP Wagon 93, 5.0 L V8. The person who had it beofre has not looked after it, I have already spent $3000 on repairs, anyway, my problem is that their was a lot of sludge that I could see when I replaced the rocket covers, so I put brought engine sludge removal . Put it in dumped the oil and filter. Started up, now the oil light stays on. Every now and agin it might flicker on and off. The engine is not getting hot, and oil seems to be circulating ok, so I am stumped, the only other thing I did at the same time was degrease the underneath of the car. I cant figure out why the light is staying on?
it sounds liuke the oil pick up in the sump is blocked ot the oil pressure sensor has died, how much oil is getting to the top?
is it rattely at all?
Stato on the inside, berlina on the out side,5ltr under the bonnet, stockies all round...........that thing has to be a sleeper

Its getting enough oil up top I reckon, NO rattles or anything......I have however just had the sump gasket replaced.
check/replace the oil pressure sensor

Thanks mate WILL DO ! CHEERS, Steve
man, soon as I saw the title for the thread I knew it was a 5 liter. It's normally a blocked pickup in the sump and also cleaning the engine inside can make it worse quite quickly. But could be the sensor like xcop said. Replace the filter too (again)
Ok guys, weird, I started it this morning, oil light stayed on for one minute then flicked on and off for about 2 minutes, now its been running for 15 minutes and its completely gone. Perhaps something had a blockage in the sump? Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Yes it does much faster ! LOL
i would still be a little worried. a mate of mine rebuilt his girlfriends vr v8 and the pickups on them are crap. we ended up putting a pickup off a 253 on it.. they have more pickup area and won't get blocked so easy. i know of another case with a vr statesman v8 and the sump has been off it trice because of a blocked oil pickup.. it is a car that has always been maintained, but not really driven that much..
i have a 5.0l VR statesman and when i first brought it i had the same drama i got it cheap cause the people i brought it off thought the oil pump was gone and it turned out to be the oil pick up blocked!! i have also been told they're a pathetic design on the 5.0l. my car had gone ALONG time without a service when i got and i was told that was what caused the problem!! it hasn't caused me any problems since(touch wood) lol!!!
i did a oil change once on my 308 and had no oil pressure. tried priming the oil pump, pre filling the filter etc, still no good. striped the whole engine down in the end. found nothing wrong. put it all back etc. used a new oil filter and it went fine. it's been suggested it may have been a faulty filter. anyways, the only way to trully check the oil pressure is with a pressure gauge. it should be simple to plumb in, even if you only do it to check it and then put it back to standard. if there was a lotta sludge in the rocker covers i'd hate to think what the sump is like![]()
