hi guys im just wonderin how much and how hard it would be to do a auto to manual conversion on a vq stato?
thanx scott
it really isn't hard at all. better or buying a hole conversion kit. with everything in it.. then ya won't be hunting around for parts..
either get the complete kit, or find a wreck you can use as a donor vehicle, you would be amazed alt all the little nuts and bolts/bits you will need that will all be there already.

I am doing this conversion this week as i just got a vn 5lt manual for a good price , the only thing is tail shaft length as the statesman is a bit longer , but as long as the manual is the same length as the auto all i need to do is swap the yoke over ( new uni joint of coruse ) and the rest should be sweet as i will put sum pics up as i go
sounds good let me know how u guys go(Y)
I have just finshed doing the conversion to my stato , what fun it was as i did it in my backyard on car ramps ,the first fun bit was changing over the ped box and having to remove most of the dash and steering coulam to get it out and back in as well ,The second fun part was removing the cooler lines as i am going to reuse them removing them by cutting them would be easyer, now all i have to do now is bypass the neutral safe swicth and get a sentor console to make the inside look the goods again and enjoy the large black strips that keep appearing out the back of the car
i left my safety switch there. i just tapped into that for the reversing lights..
hey mate did you get another computer or what did you do
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
i used the manual computer but i don't think ya have to..
I have a spare computer with a manual and auto chip, open for offers is anybody reading is interested.
i didn't think there was any difference at all with the earlier computers.. i only changed mine at the time because i had it and at the time i thought ya would have to..
where can i buy a manual conversion kit, and does the kit come with everything or do i have to buy a gearbox also
If you do things righ people wont know you have done anything at all...
also if i could just get a 5speed (mate has a wrecked vp s1) what other parts would i need, iv seen these threads but couldnt find them, also is there any mayjor difference between the vp-vp gearbox's etc if i wanna put one in...

changing a auto to 5spd is easy... if you know what your doing
computer doesnt need to be changed but the car will run better if its a manual computer..
the hardest part is pedel box IMO...
usally when you buy a converstion kit things are left out usually the gearbox mount...
best to buy a doner car..
what you mean when you say
also is there any mayjor difference between the vp-vp gearbox's etc if i wanna put one in...
if you mean VN-VP notmuch diff
ive done many conversions with vn/vp/vg/vq
