    Question Deleting door locks

Just wondering if I got a remote central locking setup is there anything to stop me (legal or mechanical) replacing the front door handles with rear handles so I have no locks on the front doors?

I'd just have to make sure I had a good spare remote so I didn't get locked out if I removed both locks! Or would it just be more practical and less risky to only remove the passenger side lock?

It is posible. some1 at school had this done. he was sick of people braking his locks trying to brake into his car. But im not sure how he did it. He also got rid of his boot lock, just bogged up the boot lock hole, and put a remote opener in. looks good i recon, i would just want it to be super reliable

I've got a remote release for the boot so that would be easy to do! I was just kind of hoping I could fit rear door handles in the front doors to get rid of the locks. It would look a lot cleaner and as you say, be one less point for people to break in to.

Im 99% sure its not legal to completely shave the door handles. Something about emergency services in case they need to get into the car, in case of an accident or fire etc. etc... General Safety Requirements?

It would be too much work on this car to remove handles I think, since i'm not planning to keep it for too much longer. I might just try swapping one of my rear handles over to the front tomorrow and seeing if it works

You could probably remove all the door handles, but would need some way of opening them from outside the car without having to use a remote or something - like they have on the TVR Griffith IIRC (little buttons under the door mirrors to pop the doors open)

my brother says he has done this with his VP calais, and im going to try it with my VP exec, but, be aware this is an illegal modification, as explained previously, as it impinges emergency access to the vehicle

You could still access the car from outside with what I want to do, as long as it's not locked from inside. Just like having 4 rear doors

If it will be illegal then I may just leave it as I don't really want too much hassle if I get pulled over!

Shaving of the door locks/handles is illegal, not removing the key lock as you will still have the ability to open the door from the outside.

Yeah but how are the emergency services supposed to know theres little buttons under the mirrors etc... Or general public who are trying to get you out of a car. In many accidents time is vital, so spending half an hour trying to figure out how the fu** to open the doors isnt very logical.

Your idea is good though, but I dont mind my door locks

shaving door handles is legal, you have to have a orange triangle sticker pointing to the button to open it and it has to be a mechanical button, not electric.

as for replacing front door handles with rear ones, just take the old ones off, and put some rear handle surrounds on. you will be left with the rod for the barrel lock, if you want to make it harder for a theif, take the rod out, i did on my project car, as its getting the shaved treatment, but i broke the plastic clip that holds it in.

i'll be putting rear handle surrounds on LOWAGZ when i need to take front door trims off next, probably when i give it a fresh coat of paint.

I've got a child seat in the way of the fold down part of the rear seats so i'd be stuffed if the battery went flat! Just have to be extra careful

get one of those hide away things old people use for there keys and put a spair remote in there. theres heaps of places on the oute side of a vn that you could hide a remote for the centeral locking
Stato on the inside, berlina on the out side,5ltr under the bonnet, stockies all round...........that thing has to be a sleeper

I'll give my girlfriend a spare remote. That will only fail if I annoy her and she chucks it out

I just changed the rear outside handles from the spare VP onto my VP's front doors. It is a job that only requires a flat blade and a philips head screwdriver, and it looks SWEEET! All the bits are interchangable.
