    Default How Many VN/VP Manuals?

Curious as to how many VN/VP's were manual compared to auto...

On the other big commodore forum everybody says 5% were manual, which means only 1 in every 20 were manual... But that aint many.... That means that maybe only 15,000-20,000 ORIGINAL VN/VP manuals were made.

Anybody ever found any figures on this?

no idea... will be interesting to hear results... mine is a factory auto but now manual... but a manual had to die for mine to be a manual and an auto dies to become a manual... ooooo trippy...

The manual was the default gearbox, you had to pay extra to get the auto, maybe 50% of the cars originally sold in the country were manuals since it makes very little sense to have an atuo when you only make a few gearchanges a day.

I was in Horsham awhile ago and more than half of the P platers doing laps were driving manual VN's. But since the vast majority of VN's were sold in big citys and city people hate manuals, I'd say 95% of the Commodores sold in the citys were Autos.

Still there are still quite a few kicking aorund out in the sticks

Yeah...country bumpkins dont know whats good for em... Ironic that once brand new it cost more to get an auto, and now manuals are worth a fair bit more than their auto counterparts.

I'm up at 250km on my S1 but it still drives like a dream. All the synchros are still good, it doesn't matter how quickly I change gear. I'm probably due to change the oil in it some time. That filler plug looks like a bitch to get to with the gearbox in the car though.

there has to be heaps of manuals made. now that every second vn is at the wreckers it is usually pretty easy to get a gearbox..
not saying this about anyone on this forum. but SOME people i know who drive auto's just can't drive manuals. and pretend they can.. i am not saying i am the best manual driver.
i only have one registered car that is an auto. and that is my old val with a 360 in it.. auto's are boring i reckon. but they do have a purpose i spose.. i would still rather drive a manual in the city though..

well i just bought a vn 1989 berlina original manual, or so i am told, not sure if originak or not. as a bit of a paddack basher. its been stacked lightly in the front left and fixed by putting a white left guard on and a white bonnet on a light blue car and the white panels resprayed with super cheap auto paint (bit diff colour) but i don't care it's only to muck around with. maybe this is a rare kind of thing, i live in the country and work at a car dealership in the country and manuals are never seen hardly. i would agree with about 5% most likely even less. just because people live in the country definately doesdn't mean they buy manual

so yeah i didnt even look to see if it's an original manual, or even an original berlina at that. all i know is it's a manal with tacho dash level 2 and electric windows and berlina trim .as i said only a paddock basher and to possibly go shooting foxes in so who cares. getting it wednesday and will let you all know then

There are alot more VN autos in the country now because all the old ones from the city are here and new cars are pretty much auto no matter what. you can't even buy a base model VE in a manual anymore. But back in the day manuals were common and the vast majority of VH's and VK's were manuals outside the city the auto has just slowly become the lazy modern mans best friend

there do seem to be a lot more VN manual cars then the later VP/VR etc. wreckers here are charging $2000 for a manual box with mount, flywheel/clutch, pedal box/cable etc (all used i'd imagine too) i recon the best bet is probably cruise the insurance company yards where they sell of the crashed cars etc for a good deal

I'd be very suprised if i ever saw another VP Calais V6 manual in decent condition.

When i searched i saw a few VN's, but they were run into the ground.

I heard they only made about 50, and most of them were the V8 model...

    Go the V6 Calais manual!
