Hey guys at work we got a vr sedan with front end damage for wrecking with irs rear and LSD centre. I can get my hands on it for a good price, but (there's always a but) im not sure if its gunna fit, i dont wanna blow money on somethign thats not going to fit, so basically i want 2 know if the rear irs from a vr will fit in a vn sedan?
any comments would be appreciated.
cheers chris
Use the LSD centre in your housing mate.
IRS will just be a pain in your backside for no real gain.
But to answer your question, yes it will fit. The actual diff has the same spline count etc. and is the same size. Both are Borg Warner M78 diffs. Mounting points for the IRS setup however...I guess you will need to fabricate. Your exhaust will probably need to be modified... Issues with tyre wear, springs, wheels etc...
thanks mate much appreciated
cheers chris
how sure are you that the irs are a 78 aswell.. didn't xcop say his mate at a diff place said they are different..
Yeah he did, but ALL the VN-VS commodores are M78 diffs. I asked SA RACE Diff & Trans and they said the IRS are a 7.8" Crown as well, which means its an M78.
From THAT thread on THAT other commodore forum, the guy says according to the people that used to make the Borg Warner diffs the IRS centres are interchangable with the M78 diffs... which means once again they must be an M78 diff.
well if that is the case i should keep my eye out for a lsd centre out of irs. they sometimes go for nearly nothing on ebay.. sometimes don't sell..
