it's probably just pressure switch. mine went as well (went through two batteries, before i figured THAT out
the switch on vp's is next to the left boot arm, which contacts it and turns the light on and off.

i couldn't get my switch off the mount, so here's what i did (it's a crazy and nerdish work around, but it did the trick for me)

i went to dick smith, and i got some wire, a little kit box (black plastic box for building electronic stuff into) a smallish bit of circuit board (but anything will do) and a mercury switch.

    1) build the mercury switch into the box, mount it in there with wire, so you can bend the angle it's on.

    2) half way under the parcel shelf are the wires that connect the switch to the light, unplug the +ive, connect one wire from the mercury switch to each bit (lamp side, switch side)

    3) now when you tilt the mercury switch, the boot light should go off and on, here's where i stick it to the boot lid vertically.

    4) bend the way the mercury switch is mounted, so when the boot's closed, the point of it points diagonally down (towards the back bumper) this means when the lid's up it should light up, and it means you'll have to be going down a 70 degree hill to turn it on with the boot lid closed.

you could probably get a 2 dollar switch from dick smith to to the same thing, i just couldn't get mine out.
(or holden would charge $40 for a genuine one
let me know if you need any further explaining, i've had a few, so this might need clarifying.

it's all good, i can post pics if need be, but to be honest, i'd have a crack at getting it out the old fashioned way (got a hammer? )

but yeah, basically just look around the boot arms, and you should see the switch, a wreckers would carry 'em. pretty generic part.

hahaha m8 i found it, came out easy there was a screw underneath the part where the plastic goes into, take that out and jus pops out no problem. but i put it in and wellllllllllllll i shut the boot and it doesnt go off (got my cuousin in the boot HAHAHAHA) and then i got in and it wouldnt go off den i would tap the lil fing in and it would turn off.. so i guess ill just need to figure out a way for the boot to push it in more..... thanksanyways
