i have read on here before that gu4 mean live axle. now i have also read that live axle is your normal everyday solid diff. is that right..
a friend of mine has a vr calais with IRS and on the comliance plate it says gu4. i have a stateman out the back. and it has gu4 and i have an 89 vn s pack and it said gu4.. and i am pretty sure my vn exec would have gu4 on it too.. what my question is. my mate reckon gu4 means single spinner.. does anyone know for sure what it means or not..
greenfoam. what does your vp have on the compliance plate that is a irs lsd isn't it???
Yep GU4 means standard 3.08 single spinner diff, mine has GU4 it's not LSD, but sometimes spins both I think IRS cars are more likely to do that
right. so it is right then.. so when people say live axle does that mean single spinner or a normal solid diff (non IRS).. i just got thinking about it and it was either on this forum or another one. people were saying gu4 meant non IRS.. and i thought that wasn't right...
so
what does it say on teh plate if it is an lsd diff
I think it's supposed to say G80 for an LSD but my ute says GU4 but is definately LSD.
my girlfriends mum's vn has gu4 stamped on it, but i think it is lsd
i will have a look at mine and see, idefanatly know its lsd

GU4 for single spinner, G80 for LSD.
All they are, is the manufacturer model number (ie - Eaton G80 LSD).

Maybe It's just the biggest coincidence ever, but there's an Eaton G80 LSD going on GM cars..
Or maybe Eaton bought Spicer, Eaton do like to buy people...
Edit - scrap me... thats a G80 locker... blah

I thought they were a borg warner diff?
right. thats what i thought. i can't remember when people were saying it but they saying gu4 meant live axle and had nothing to do with if it was lsd or not.. so that was all crap then.
Yep, GU4 can be live or IRS, but it'll always be a single spinner.

Research has shown that men usually sleep on the right side of the bed.
Even in our sleep we happen to be right.

my car says gu4 but its deffanatly got an lsd in it, ive checked it and ive had the backing plate off
being an ex police car youd think theyd have to have lsd for better traction, but if its been a single spinner some one has changed it before i bought it

well burnz is saying that it means ratio not type of centre..
burnz is wrong....
if his plate has GU4 and he has an LSD, it's been converted.

Well figure this one out. Mine has GU4 on the plate and the LSD tag on the rear. Definitely no work done........
You can have GU4 on the plate and still have an LSD, I think when it was included as part of a pack and not an option that's what you will get. Like cop cars, BT1 should include a LSD so maybe there's no need to show the option on the plate? The VN/P LSD's should have a red/brown oil cap instead of the black one
Is your ute a manual vy_storm? If it is that would also discount ratio wouldnt it?
